New Alternator

Ok guys just wanted to say how pleased I am not that I have a new Alternator. Cost me 70 bucks. My volt gauge stays a strong 14 volts. I got the 86 1.3 turbo 70 amp alt. Well thats what the comp at my work said it was. Just wanted to let everyone know how pleased I am at this part. Oh and I forgot to say I'm hoping that I'll get better MPG now.

I have a question related to this, I have an alternator from a base 87, and I was wondering if this is an upgrade on my 84 gsl-se, or if they are the same alt. If it is better to have the 87 one in, I'll swap it. I searched a lot on this and it seems people only swap in the turbo alternators, not the one from the n/a... any help is appreciated! Thanks!

This is why you need to peruse the FAQs page Carl and Inittab set up at the top of the page when you go to upgrade or mod your 7 so you're not re-inventing the wheel or ripping yourself off...I spent $30 less and got 10 more amperes from my alternator by reading this...

upon looking at that thread, as well as a link IN that thread, I went to check my amp, and since I have a gsl-se, I already have 60A but I figure I'll still upgrade to my 87 n/a alt which has 70A just cause hey, I'll take a 16% increase for free also, my current amp looks like crap and my 87 (as i recall) still looks pretty shiney, which will make my engine bay be just that much better looking
