New 1st Gen Body kit. Comments?
Extreme Dimensions is looking to come out with an updated body kit for the 1st gen following the theme of their GP-1 kit for the 2nd gen. Looking for comments and recommendations both what you like (I really like the front Air Dam) and what you don't like (I'm not totally sold on the side and especially rear skirts design).
Also, comments on the wheels?

Comment away.
Link to their web site, specifically the 2nd Gen kit this is patterned after:
http://www.extremedimensions.com/6007.html
Also, maybe surf their site for mix and match suggestions. For instance, I've gotten comments that the side skirts should line up with the line of the door sill kind of like these:
http://www.extremedimensions.com/7515.html
I'd also like to see the rear bumper get tightened up to the body following the overall curved body lines (like the front air dam) rather than being so squared.

I very much love that front air dam... and the rest of it. WTB.
edit: Though the *** end is a bit weird looking imo.
Would it be about the same price as the FC kit on that site?

How about others of theirs as alternative to rear and side skirts?
http://www.extremedimensions.com/3755.html matched with side skirts like this:

I know it takes a lot of effort to create a new body kit so I'm sorry to criticise so harshly, but honestly I think it's pretty sub-par.
I feel that the kit doesn't match the car and nor does the front bumper match the rest of the kit.
The front bumper looks like an attempt to meld modern body-kit styling to an 80s car, and it doesn't work very well in my opinion. The rest of the kit looks like a pastiche of styling cues pulled from mediocre body kits of the 80s/90s. SAs/FBs deserve better.

Good points, especially from a 1st Gen purest view....
And I agree with your observation of the front vs side and rear styling. But to be fair, it seems their attempt is to meld a body kit designed for a 86+ model RX7 car to a '85 model. So, not that much separation in ages.
Besides, many times isn't a body kit is purchased with the goal to update the body cosmetics and styling? Common example of that theme, the popularity of putting S5 tails on a S4.
Regardless, keep those comments coming. No such thing as a bad idea or comment in this situation. I'm especially interested in comments on the SC side and rear skirt styling alternative.

I guess I'm a purist.
Attempts the update or improve icons like the 1st gen RX-7 will always fail unless the people who are trying to do so have as much talent as the original designers. In addition you must have an understanding of why it was shaped the way it was in the first place. What inspired them? From what influences was the design derived? How did it fit into the context of the time period it was created in and for? Unless you can understand and answer these questions you are not in a position to update or improve an icon, or anything else. Just my opinion.

Im with everybody else. But personally, I think Mazda did a outstanding job designing the first gen. I never plan on putting a body kit on. I love my car stock and thats the way its going to stay. My opinion though. God bless

Styling update, product update
MOLDING LOOK ELIMINATED
The "molding" designed into the front and rear is being eliminated in favor of a smooth (ie eliminated all the molding look) look.
AIR DAM
The front Dam will be adjusted so it points more forward than downward.
With that thought, looking for comments from those who want to have, do have, or had an aftermarket front dams as to functional bias:
Lower to ground design for look and high speed functionality
vs.
Higher from the ground to make easier to deal with day to day issues such as going over speed bumps or into driveways.
This is kind of a "one or the other" bias question. I'm a fan of the easier to deal with driveways bias.
CARBON FIRER HOODS
They are also looking to come out with 1st Gen carbon fibre hoods. One with a TII type scoop. However, availability wouldn't be much before this Christmas if that soon.

Why dont they just use the existing Rx7 M-1 kit just switch the front bumper. and if the new bumper is too low compared to the M1s sides and rear then just extend them lower a bit. btw those sides are too boxy and that vent in them those flow with kit or car.
edit* I'm leaing towards the low to ground drift look which is what the GP-1 is. If everyone else wants that DD and high off ground there are other older kits that complete that look for ages like the M-1 front uuuugh. And for the purist/s they wont even buy any kits (maybe a front lip and flares.)

In regards to the side skirts, they either need to be the same width from the door out, of go from the door to the fender lip like the Kaminaari kit, The 1/2 one and 1/2 the other doesn't work visually. As far as the rear skirt, it should turn under similiar to the oem roll pan instead of turing out.

IMHO a good body kit should clean up the bumper but not alter it drastically, unless it's intended for actual IMSA racing or something Stock opening sizes are more than adequate for rad and oil cooler airflow, so no need for Guppy Mouth Bumpers. and 80's style straight-to-ground bumper dams match the period, but I thought they looked ugly even back then.

I like the front. I don't like the step down from the rear bumper to the rear quarter. The body line needs to stay consistent and be integrated into with the rear marker light like the front. Also, the side skirts need to go high on the front and rear and follow the same body line where the factory molding would go.

The back should be tapered forward, instead of out toward the rear. I don't like the sides at all. Tuck that rear in a little bit, and ditch that ducktail off it. Maybe. I just repainted without reusing my body kit. Sometimes I miss the look, but I dropped the weight.
So much smoother now!
