need your help!!!

ok i pulled my 83 l.e. motor (running) droped in my 81 ported motor(running), all sent smooth BUT....
she fired right up and ran good, needed the idle ajusted, then after it warmed up it started running like real crap, sounded like it was running on 1 rotor. i checked im getting spark on all wires. What do you think it could be? it had NO power every once and a while it would open up like it should but only when on flat or down hill runs. I figured i would put in new plugs, and check the fuel lines, a friend helped me and he did the lines.
Any input is welcome... i need my baby back

the valve thingy( aka: check valve) Goes on the return line. The lines are different diameters the bigger line is your feed and goes on the metal line to the front of the carb. the smaller line (with the valve thingy) is the return and goes to the metal line toward the rear of the carb. I don't see how the car would run if they where switched. But if it did run it would probably run very badly like you said. If that valve was taken out of the line and put in backward it could cause the car to run bad. basically it wouldn't let any fuel back into the tank and your motor would flood. It would be a bigger problem at low rpm's than high though.

I cant really think of anything right off that would cause this other than a fuel delivery problem. Check that the lines are on right and get back to us. Did you use the carb off the stock motor? did you open the front cover for any reason? Did you do anything with the distributor? Is everything stock except the street port?

Good luck,
Mike

ok, i checked the lines last night. they seem to be on the right tubes(bigger line..bigger tube, smaller line..with vavle.. smaller tube) but they are backwards i have gotten 2 emails saying the larger 1 on the front of the carb smaller on the rear. well mine the larger 1 is close to the carb body but on the back of the carb.
ok the stuff on the car is a m.t stage 5 header to a high flow cat..stock after that(for thetime being) msd coils in stock location, drop in K&N. the carb and all was working great when we pulled it cleaned the surface and reinstalled it. the car ran great when the motor was pulled and the ported motor ran good when it was pulled last sunday.
could this be a cable teintion prob? also we did brake the shuttervalve vacume thinggy(orange or yellow) but hooked up a vacume line to it so we didnt have a leak, it ran the same with or with out it hooked up.

ok an update, she still wont run right. i pulled the plugs the rear rotor plugs were BLACK as hell, the front seems to be fireing ok they looks runable. I replaced them all and still no improvment. when i had the plugs out i spun over the motor, got good strong swooshs on both rotors. i also forgot, i have a indigo 1" core race rad. it looks just like the 79-82 rad(short) i didnt put in the stock temp sencer in the lower part of the new rad.. im going to replace the shutter vavle vacume sencer next(was busted in the swap) if that doesnt fix it ill try the temp sencer... any body care to give me there 2 cents?

Ok, I have an Idea. You say the shutter valve is broken. I'm assuming you mean the one in the manifold on the rear primary port. If the valve is stuck shut it won't let any fuel into the rear rotor untill the secondaries open up wich is why the car will run like **** untill you get on it and the secondaries open. If the vacume actuator is not working then any time the engine is running the butterfly valve is going to be sucked shut by the vacume of the engine.
You could try holding the valve open using some needle nose plyers and start the engine to see if it runs better.
Now if I where you, I would take the carb and manifold off. Take that shutter valve out of the manifold and epoxy the hole it leaves.
I have done this with every manifold I have ever put on a car.

Good luck,
Mike
