Yah, I can believe the FC CAS would require an ecu to split up the signals for trailing and leading. I am going to slap one on a scope soon and see what the ouput looks like.

So far, it appears to have one output for the "teeth" and one for sync. It may be possible to mod the CAS for our uses, and since it may have a magnetic output, the ignitor might be perfectly happy with it. More testing to come...

Jeff, I had my 2nd gen trailing coils apart, and their is only a single ignitor. You would need two leading ignitors to run off the 81-85 distributor, but who knows if that distributor would fire the 2nd gen types? Easier to use J-105 or J-109 like your other direct fire conversions to fire each 2nd gen coil separately. Are J-105 ignitors any different other than size? I have 2 I was going to make my full DLIDFIS setup with.

I spent some time with the MSD today. I also messed around with my FC coils. It looks like a trailing coil will fit on the leading base. I think I can omit the ballast resistor too. Can anyone confirm this? Also, can I run the leading coil hooked directly to the MSD without a ballast resistor?

Ditto on the single trailing ignitor with several wires. Oh well.

The question I have is whether the '81-'85 dizzy will trigger two 2nd gen leading ignitors hooked together in parallel like it can with two J-109s as per classic DLIDFIS. If you'll notice on the diagram, it shows the red pickup wire goes to ground while the green goes to the green with a yellow tracer on the 2nd gen leading ignitor.

Wait a minute, my leading ignitor has black, red, and brown wires only. Something is a little screwy here. I won't just start hooking up wires in hopes of finding the right combination. I'll need to do a little more research.

There is probably a way to make both trailing coils fire at the same time by wiring the trailing ignitor a certain way. However that might not be good for the ignitor because it was never intended to work that way.
