need opinions
Which of the two to get.
1985 GSL. 12a streetported, all hubs swapped with SE (so 4x114.3), rear disc brakes and has SE LSD. some rust bubbles by rear wheel wells, mis-coloured front fender, and no drivers side lock (was punched, still locks but cannot unlock from outside. Currently daily driven, and I've test drove it, ran strong. 60,000 on rebuild. Transmission grinds a bit downshifting into second. New clutch. passed aircare. $1700

or 1984 GSL-SE 13b Rebuilt with unknown kms. thrust bearing in transmission making a small amount of noise. very small amount of rust (small part on drivers side, right behind front wheel well). Power steering is dead. a/c is empty. runs and drives well from what he said, but it currently has no insurance on it. clutch has some life in it, but is getting warn. $2000

They both have rust.
First things first: check the rear wheel well. If you see any rust near the storage bins, call it a day and keep the money.
And of the 2, ask yourself. Do you want preformance? Get the first and have some fun. If you want one to just drive, get the -SE, their value will go up!

Thanks for the help, The first of them I can probably talk down quite easily if I come with cash in hand, he really wants to get rid of it (needs a car with better gas milage)
I'll make sure I check out the rear wheel wells.
I do want some performance, though its not a huge deal right now. Either way I would probably be modding it in the future. and if I get the 12a I'll probably swap a 13b when the 12 dies.
How much would you suggest I offer?

I honestly wouldnt go anywhere over 1400 for either. Over 20 years old, rust, Iffy transmissions. Dont get me wrong, tons of these RX7s have these problems. Just make sure you dont buy a coffin ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Argue hard about the transmissions and the fact that your will have to get new ones in the near future (even though you probably wont, but grinding gets on my nerves fast). Oh, and check the parts FS section. Sometimes you can get transmissions for as little as 50$, just dont let them know that haha.
