Need a little help.

Ok my car has begone making some wierd sounds (sounds like a vaccume leak and some other wierd sound when you barely touch the gas at an idle.

At above 4500PM in 3rd through 5 gear the car has no power and just dosent want to accelerate. up till then it has moderate power, but still feels a little down.

Also in 1st and 2nd if I run the rpm's up to redline, at between 3500 rpm and 4500 rpm it makes a loud screaming sound.

Over all the car is feeling really down on power yet idels and runs overall very nicely. I have kinnda narrowed it down to 2 possibilites

1; Vacume leak.
If this is it than how do I locate the leak? I have looked around rather extencievly, and cant find anything.

2; fuel system,
I have a newer fuel pump and only run Chevron Supreme Fuel, I just put new spark plugs in it, they were about 8000 miles old, were very white and had a little carbon build up. I attribute the white color to lots of auto-x,ing and to hot of plugs.

Any help would be great!!
thanks guys

For the vacum leak, take a can of carb cleaner and spary. When you hit the leak, your rpms will jump up a little. Then spray a little more carefully, and so on until you find your leak.

If the sound is really coming from the engine bay, I'm way off here, but just another idea...if your catalytic converter is clogged up, you'll get some of the same symptoms. Low power in the upper gears and a real whine in 1st and 2nd. I did the ATF treatment without disconnecting the cat and now I have the same problem. A straight pipe and new cat back should take care of it for me.
