RESURECTED FROM THE DEAD........i have the same problem in my 84 -se, however if i put the clutch in when it's vibrating it still vibrates in neutral or in gear, but, if i let off the throttle the vibration will go away until i even slightly tap the throttle i just reached under my car without jacking it up to grab the shaft and it does have a lil bit of play but it's not alot, i didnt hear anything slapping around tho, just wanted to confirm if this still might be the u-joints so i can just bite the bullet and do my turbo II tranny sway while im at it since there's no sence in buying a $300 driveshaft for a stock tranny when im going to end up doing a turbo swap anyway.....also the faster i go the more of a buzz it becomes and less of a vibration, when im around 50 or 60plus mph it's a buzz

U-joints. Since it doesn't change with the clutch, but does with rpm/speed changes, it's not the tranny. Any play in the joints is bad.

It sounds like you broke one of the gears in the transmission. Drain the oil out to see if you get any metal particles coming out.

OK, talking about the dead, it was almost 5 years ago since I posted in this same thread. Get a new driveshaft and be done with it. If it breaks, Its going to make a mess and a walk home.
