Need help with racing beat carb and a little smoke issue
I have a 79 seven. When I drive it it smells like gas, and when I just shut it off anyone that walks past it can smell gas. When I fire it up and try to give it gas from a idle it lags till its at about 1500-2000 rpms, and is a little jerky to drive at those low rpms. I was told its a fuel issue and my carb needs adjusted. I dont know how to do that. One last thing at higher rpms when im driving it smokes. Does that mean that my apexs are bad? but it only smokes around 6000-7000 rpms... Any help would be awsome. Thank you

Do you see any obvious leaks?
Do you have proper fuel pressure?
Are your floats set correctly?
Is it a Holley?
Tune the carb up before you decide to pull your motor. Smoke doesn't really matter unless your car is slow or gives you dizzy spells while you are driving?

Smoke is white we originally put 5w oil in cause we had to swap the motor. Then we drained the oil and put 15w-40 in it and I slowed down on alot of the smoking. Now it's just at high rpms. The carb is not a holly it's a racing beat. Will get pics tomorrow. It leaks oil out of the carb but I don't see any gas leaking anywhere. I don't know alot about carbs so I'm not sure how to set the floats. This carb was on the old motor and ran fine but it also set a year before I got the chance to swap the motor. And I check the coolent level and oil level about every day the only thing that I have to keep replinishing is the oil.

yes u will have to keep replenishing the oil cause it burns it own oil by way of the oil metering pump(OMP), plus u already said it leaks oil. racing beat sells two types of carbs, holley and dellorto. if the smoke is oil, it's from the oil control "O" rings being bad which can only be fixed by rebuild.

So one of the screws to adjust the carb are stripped on it. Its a Dellorto carb. Just a quick question, If your running carbs what carbs are your favorates? what would you reccomend running on a 12a motor?

I would order a rebuild kit and a book for the Dell. They are one of the simplest carbs to rebuild. Try these guys for parts/rebuild kits.

So I am now looking into a rebuild kit for my carb... That will b coming soon... But unroll ten is there maybe something I can do to help it run a Lil better untill I can get the kit? I'm thinking maybe spray carb cleaner in the intake? And maybe if anyone knows about this carb maybe help guide me to what screws do I have to twist what way to help out my car... I think it might be to rich cause when I fire it up and it's at an idle it kinda lags a little bit when I give it gas till it's up to higher rpms Like around 2500 and higher... And sometimes when i slow down coming to a stop it drops down to low rpms and I have to flutter the gas so that it gets back up to about 700-1000 rpms. And when I just first fire it up I have to do the same
