Need help with my oil pan gasket...
I hate to ask these sort of questions, because you always get 2 answers. My question, is how do I replace my oil pan gasket?
These are the two answers provided to me:
"Just unbolt the oil pan, and get to scraping!"
Or...<sigh>...
"Take out all the motor mounts, HOIST the engine and the tranny up -at the same time- and take off the oil pan..."
I really hope the latter of those isn't true. I don't see why I should have to completely dismantle everything under the hood of my car just to get a ******* oil pan off.
But I stand to be corrected
Thanks for the help!

hmmm, actually I think it is a fairly good question. For one thing, the steering goes underneath the engine and the pan I believe. You could take that apart, or you can unbolt the pan, and possibly slide it out. Not exactly sure as I replaced mine while doing an engine swap. Lots easier to clean the whole engine when its out.

When I changed my 12a pan, I just unbolted it, and let the pan rest on the crossmemeber and steering linkage, and just moved the gasket around till i got it past the pickup, and bolt her back up. Make sure to use RTV where the housings/irons meet up.

Thanks for the info! Now, considering the oil leak is not bad by any means (to do with the oil pan gasket), Would I better off just leaving it like it is? Also, I thought a case seal was blown, until I went around the engine with a rag, and got no oil...and I saw that my oil injection tubes did not have hoseclamps!! lol. So the pressure was spraying the oil all over the engine bay but $4 fixed that.

no oil leak is better than oil leak. If you want to fix it, have at it. I personally would fix it just because I can't stand leaking out $6/qt oil. (Royal Purple)

One thing to keep in mind. Those bolts are small and are going into aluminum on the rotor housings. Dont over torque them. They snap easily (dont ask how I know).
