NEED ALTERNATOR HELP!!(have to get to work tommorow)
hey all
quick question, the stock alt on my 83gsl just crapped out it was a 12v/50Amp, i have a s4 70amp alt sitting around, can i swap it in directly(or with minimal modification to wiring)?, and if so is it absolutley neccessary for me to have an FC fuse box? reason being i need to drive about 3-4 hours tommoeow for work, and i don't particularily want to start blowing the fusible links, also i don't have the fuse box on hand, and won't be able to obtain it till the weekend.
thanks all, and yes i'm aware that there is a search function, i did search but apparently 70amp alt isn't that popular

The 87-88 alts bolt right up and use the same plug style on the back. The 89-91 use a different plug style on the back.
You don't need to mess with the fusible links, everything should work fine. (At least it did with me)

Make sure it's an S4 one!
The S5 and FD alts need to be wired differently or they'll cause a drain on the battery.
the wiring changes are minor. One of the prongs of the connector needs a constant 12v+, instead of a switched ignition source. So you just run another small wire to the battery from there. The rest hooks up the same. That's on the S5 and FD alts.
