The automatic transmission actually drops the car's value rather than increasing it. Otherwise, if the car really is in showroom condition and the mileage can be verified by service records it's still a good find.

By "showroom condition" I mean no rust or dings anywhere, original paint, flawless uphoulstry, no ricer mods and very few if any stone chips. Tires should be new, mags should be in excellent shape and there should be no squeeks or rattles. The engine bay should be clean and the car should have no leaks anywhere.

If this is the case this car could be worth between $3000 and $3500. But if it's a "20-footer" (ie: looks good from 20 feet away, but closer inspection reveals the usual door dings, stone chips, evidence of higher-than-indicated mileage, minor rust, etc.) it's likely not worth more than $2000. I'd offer $1500.

Welcome to the forum!

Now. Some more information would be helpful. Did the owner put 30,000 miles on it in it 3 years and then let sit for 21 years? Or was is driven occassionally throughout it's life and properly maintained?

Some pics would help too.

Does it run? Showroom condition could mean it looks pretty, but have you (or your father) driven it?

Things dry up when they're over 20 years old and sometimes a car that is regularly driven is actually better than one that only gets occassionaly gets started, but not driven.

Just supply more info and people can give more advice, and again, welcome to the forum.

the problem is people on the board dont want to pay for an rx-7. if it were my car, i'd ask 4Kobo. if its as clean as you say it is, dont be afraid to offer $3500. get the car home and get that auto trans out of there

+1

But Dubly did bring up a good point as well, did he drive it for three years and let it sit, or was it just driven periodically throughout its entire life and just never gathered that many miles?
