There's no need to retrofit all that stuff. Mine is an "S" and I've never missed any of that stuff that's on the GS (well, maybe the 5 speed). It's just a matter of what you want to do with your car. I like keeping mine basically original...still a great car.

One reason GS sold was price, only $600 more at $6,995 and for that you got 5 speed box, better tires, rear anti-roll bar,and numerous trim differences such as electric hatch release. Another reason was dealers tried to upgrade their sales and add in all the options. The S model often came with side mouldings and extra trim round the wheel arches.

The sun roof was available on the S and GS at $275, as were alloy wheels at $250.

The rarest '79' model was the 'competion model' shown at the Japanese launch. Several were built but I can't find any evidence they went on sale.
