My carb hat

Well i just finished cnc maching my new carb hat, Its not going to be turboed but this is going to be used in place of the RB carb hat. im going to weld on some inlets on two sides, there will be 3 inch tubing coming from behind the alt and ducting out where the battery is, once i move it, then the other air inlet will duct out where the over fill radiator tank is once i relocate it. i know its not finished but thought some of yall would like seeing what i got so far. hope you like it, its a one off as far as i know. enjoy and i will update as i get more done robert

Looks good, Robert. Aluminum? Did you machine it yourself? Anyway, great work.

well i am just about finished with school and i had to do a co-op where i work and have "goals" and meet them, well we just got new software Surfcam Velocity so my goal was to draw something and then machine it. Well i completly drew and programmed the entire thing my self then i machined it on our VP600 OKK high speed Milling center. so yeah i did every bit of it my self. It is made from a solid aluminum chunk. im going to duct the air out to the front and use two cone filters out on the ends, one on each inlet ducting. i think once the ducting and filters are in place it will look great. well ill try to finish it this week and get some pics. the dimensions are 9 inches from flat to apex then three inches thick.

i wish i could make some but man aluminum is expensive. i cant wait to get the duct work finished. im thinking of mounting the filter in front of the radiator, by cutting through the sheet metal panels or im going to make some kind of scoop around the lights and keep the filters just beside the radiator.

Yes that is a temperature sender manifold, its mounted in the radiator hose, i made that also, i have tried to make most the stuff my self, i also made a center dash insert and otehrs. I have made a couple that go in the heater hose instead so you dont get the temperature delay waiting for the thermostat to open.

Rob, I can't believe you have been keeping this one from me! I thought we were tight! You dog! Dude! You have got to bring that by the house! I would like to see that in person. From the pics it looks pretty sweet. I don't know about running the duel pipes and filters though. Anyway, looks sweet. Mad props, bro!!!!

Damn Rob that thing is sweet. You could get your company to mass produce those and I know all the turbo 12A guys will buy one. I'd definitely be in for one if you were to make them

yeah i was thinking man that would be kick *** on a blow through. the aluminum i used was a piece we had back in the back of our shop. The place i work makes plastic injection molds which make the air bag covers for alot of cars and also the center wheel covers and complete wheel covers so we get big pieces of aluminum in for prototyping. Im going to price that size of aluminum and check the price on the time it took but unless i was to make a TON of them it would cost a TON. it took like 8 hrs to make, with the different setups and maching in.

i was looking last night at it and i might leavet he battery and just run a LARGE size ducting to the passenger side with a LARGE filter.

yeah all teh programs and tooling is setup and now i know what it takes to make one, i will check on the material price this week. and then get back with everyone. i still have to fit it on mine, im not sure what the diameter of stock carbs and sterlings and any others are. my holley has a 5 inch lip, the only thing is i have to open it up a bit to clear some parts of the carb and also make a spacers so it does not hit the float levels. well ill keep everyone informed

well i just ordered the material to duct out my filter, im going to use 4.5 inch aluminum tubing and duct out one side, toward the overfill tank, then there will be a 4.5 inch inlet 6in diameter k&n filter on the end. going to look sweet i think. im going to try and finish it this week so ill post more pics as it gets closer
