ok new idea.. i hope this is my idea this time..

seeing as metal will conduct too much heat..

how does pvc pipeing sound for the carb boot? its HEAPs easier for me to work with than metal, cus i realy cant be bothered pullin the welder out..

it should melt should it? pvc is pretty heat resistan? and the 3" pipe is the very same size as a pod filter..

my brother just used pvc on his mr2 to remove his air box and put a pod on..

Well I was thinking of making a fiberglass tube.... course it would be a bit o' work to set up but, once the molds were completed they wouldn't bee too hard to make copies of. Fiberglass is good for the heat insulating properties but I would have to figure out the dimensions and then make something which I could use to make the copies from.

LIke i said earlier, when I get to this problem, I'll figure somethng out. but I'm sure the polished metal or PVC would be more than sufficient.

My understanding is that PVC will not hold up long in the engine compartment. No first hand exp though.

Its a matter of having the tutorial finished. Then you'll have list of materials, pics, fab notes etc...... The particular setup I engineered was made to be as cheap as possible, and as effective as possible. Those with show winning engine compartments might not want to do it this way.

Teaser: You get to keep the stock airbox so you can continue to use stock replaement elements, or your K&N if you already have one.

But... the first pic is upside down!!!

Nicely laid out, and nice pics, really really big though! Can't you reduce the file size a bit? Anyone on a modem is gonna have a fit with that size... more like 4-6MB would be reasonable.

But what is up with that silver ducting? Holy cow!

Well, in order to leave details visible, I've left the images at 192 dpi. Unfortunately, since we're trying to avoid the whole "Haynes-way-of-small-blurry-pictures-with-the-focal-point-far-off" way of doing things, we want the pictures to be rich and focusing on the steps at hand rather than being nebulous. We want people as mechanically illiterate as myself to be able to walk right into anything we produce. Accordingly, 15 Megs will be the average filesize.

Upon request and/or appropriate donation, we can send the pdfs on a CD for the bandwidth impaired. a 56k modem should be able to do each tutorial in about an hour - the average cable modem should get it within 90 seconds.

Last time I checked, about 48% of people on the internet in the US were high-speed customers. That means it's reasonable to expect that most people won't mind, and the number of CDs being pressed will be few.

Just wait till we get enough to get a book printed, eh?

And that picture isn't upside-down - it's artistic!

My modified intake snorkel was PVC. It held up fine.

And the "silver" ducting is fiberglass insulated, mylar covered ductwork.

I understand your reasoning with the pdf size.... how much of a "donation" for a CD?

And yeah I understnd the insulation properties of the tubing I'm sure it rocks!

Heh - yeah, I got the whole "future from the 50s" feeling when I saw it, but the performance is definitely there. Just wait till we add the Bernouli scoop.

As for donation, figure $.30 for CD, the time and effort involved in burning and mailing (I think the CD pouches are about a buck each), and I think $5 for CD (would include everything we have) is about right. Hell, I might be persuaded to do the print-friendly versions for $7.5 on a CD, but in all fairness, $10 for print-friendly CD versions isn't too bad, right?

Don't get me wrong - we're not looking to make millions on this - but our donations have ranged from $1 to $30. I think leaving things tipware is how we want to do things, so it's pretty much - make me an offer, but don't insult my generosity as mailing it is going to run about $3 cost.

i have seen some good ideas come to life. ther eis one idea that was on a car for the Grass roots car that blake qually used. it had a box taht sat ontop of the car, and had to hols on it, one int he front passanger side, and one in the rear driver side. he then ran that flexable dryer tubeing off of each side into cone filters.

i never heard how it worked becasue i dont htink he has used it yet. but it was a great idea in my oppinion.

ive torched the stuff b4, and even under a gas flame it only started to get soft, so im pretty sure it should hold up...


and now i must sit here quietly while my 56k stugles to download 15mb... and thanks for the new tourial, im sure it will help out heaps...
