The 12A requires less maintenance than a boinger, but it does require some light maintenance which anyone can do. I regularly drive my 83 up the mountain roads keeping the revs around 5k so I have some headroom to tromp on it. Bought that car new in 82 and it has 130k and runs like the day I bought it.
3 years ago I bought an 85GSL with 49k for $1700, but that's a rare deal. The guy sold it to me after looking at the 83: he just wanted a good home for it. Same with the REPU I bought.

Most likely your idle problem is a vacuum leak. Unlikely that the idle screws are off unless someone messed with them because they don't change with age. About the only time those screws are touched is to finetune for smog, and neither of my Nikki/12As has ever required an adjustment.

its got to be something minor, the first thing i did when i got me 85 gs 160+k on it, was new vacume lines from home depo ( i love home depo ). she gets reved 4-7 on a daily basis, and you can still feel the meat of the engine at 4 rpms every time she just wants more.
