Muffler differences between 12A & 13B
The muffler on my -SE is doing a great impression of swiss cheese, so I'm going to have to replace it. The motor is stock, and I'm going to stay with the three stock cats. (There's talk of the sniffer test going away, so I'm not going to drop the cash now to put a new high-flow cat in there). I'm looking at a Walker replacement from Advance Auto which, from my searching, seems to be a pretty decent one. Searching their parts catalog, they return a part number that Walker states is for a 12A. Looking at the parts diagram from Mazda, there are different part numbers for the muffler assembly, but the only difference appears to be the tips. Is there any difference in the muffler itself between the two engines? On one hand, I want to trust the guys at Advance... but on the other hand, they've been having a hard time getting brake pads right. Anybody know about the Walker 45920 on a 13B -- or if there is a significant muffler difference between the 12A and 13B cars?
Thanks much!

actually, the mufflers are the same for a 12A and 13B. a lot of times, the cheaper mufflers will crack due to the high heat of the rotaryputs out. basically, they can't handle the heat and split. a friend of mine went through 3 mufflers in a year. he used dynomax.

I say invest the cash and get a Racing Beat PowerPulse muffler. That way you are 1/3 of the way to a full RB exhaust system, seeing as you have to replace it anyway
