motor....

I have been thinkingabout pulling my engine....

I used to do beetles, and of course, had the motors out in about 25 minutes...

i was thinking on pulling my engine out of my 7, and doing the engine compartment, and cleaning the engine up. Anyone know the motor weight?...I used to take the beetle motors out with a floor jack...I don't have a engine lift..."yet"....but was gonna use a come along, on my beam.

The motor doesn't look hard to pull

i would guess a couple hundred pounds at least.
i use a come along and a tree for most of my engine pulls.
they are real easy to pull.

I would just go to like your local hardware store or something...like a NAPA or Carquest and buy a chain hoist...makes things easy as butter!...or you could take a chain and bolt it to two points on your engine and put a metal bar through the middle and get a buddy to help you pull it out...< thats the hard way of course...for like $100 you will love your chain hoist...you can even leave it hanging there...spray it with some degreaser and clean it that way...

thanks!!...It don't look like theres much to pulling these engines. And everything appears to be easy to get to.
i just figured pull the engine,do the whole engine compartment, and clean and paint the motor, then its a done deal...

Of course, after I make sure it is firing up okay, and running fine!

The engine doesn't weigh much at all. You can pick it up yourself without the tranny bolted to it. With the tranny it only takes two people to lift.

You need a lift unless you're king kong. Do it right. It's not worth hurting yourself or damaging something during the process. Post on your local forum, someone is bound to have one they can lend you for the day.

I see you are new here. Welcome. More descriptive titles will get you more looks.

I'm a pretty big guy about 220 pounds and I pretty muscular but I would lift that from stand still at that weird angle out of the bay by myself...

Yeah don't lift it out by yourself. Use some sort of lift. It just makes things easier.
