modifications where do i start

hello im wondering if some one would give me some help on where to start modifing.
i have just brought a 83 series 1 rx7 12a and i wont to get some more grunt out of it ive done some reaserch on parts but havent been able to figure where to start to either port it or upgrade to 51mm ida or upgrade leads and coils or change the water/oil cooler to air/fin cooler first and so on.as i have found out the rota engine can be very delicate to modify there has to be a balance.plus i am new to this and will be learning sad thing is i aint no mehcanic so i was thinkin maybe u pepole who have gone through this process could give me some tips on to where to start.

cheers :o)

exhaust and the search button the 51mm would be useless without exhaust.

51 mm will be overkill on a stock port. Good for a full bidge though.

Cheapest mod that yields good power (in my opinion) is the 2nd gen ignition with Transistor Trick. An excellent place to start that will set you back less than $50.00. Exhaust will give you a bigger kick, but then you're looking at around $800.00 for a Racing Beat system. How much $$$ do you have to play with?

1) exhaust (racingbeat all the way!)

2) port (street, bridge, whatever)

3) carb (sterling, holley, weber..)

4) ignition (2nd gen, MSD)

That should be good to get some nice power. Do some research and you'll find a lot more info.

Power in these cars can be dangerous to someone unfamiliar with their handling trailts. I'd say, before doing anything with the engine, set up the suspension and brakes to the point where the car (and you) can handle extra power. Springs, shocks/struts, roll bars, chassis stiffening, bushings, and most improtantly, tires. Then start working on the engine.

well thanks for all ya info its givien me a sense of directions.there dosent seem to be a very good variety of body parts for these 1st gens has any one tryed series 2 parts on them before or are they majorly different or maybe done a d.i.y and made there own let me know.plus i was wondering if anyone has experinced there engine shudering like making the whole car vibrate in a bad way for an example say u had the car in high gear but was goin slow the car would be shuddering. iv noticed it happens between 2-5revs. but from 5-7 it seems to go away i thought maybe the engine mouts were lose but everything seems fixed. um kinda worried *** it may be somthing internall any one have ideas i had a bit of a look through the fourms maybe warped flywheel or clutch but by the way this is in neutrual(stationary) so maybe flywheel

cheers anyway

Check your tranny mount and make sure that your ignition is in good working order...

keep your eyes open on ebay and this forum in the for sale section. there are lots of good carbs and exhausts being sold for fair prices. when you buy an aftermarket carb tho, keep in mind that you will need time and patience as 99% of the time they need to be tuned. rarely can you slap a carb on and it works great out of the box. the only exceptions are the Racing Beat holley kit and a PB&J nikki. do some research on these to understand what i'm talking about.

how far do you want to go with this car?

Thats just the thrust bearing, not an issue, not worth changing it....

Read prior post regarding suspension and brakes, FIRST.
