Mixture screw question

Which direction equals less fuel clockwise or counter?

It should be labeled. I think Rich is clockwise and Lean is anticlockwise.

Yes, clockwise (toward firewall) less fuel. Make sure the carb has had time to warm up.

its a fuel passage, so tighten the screw = smaller passage = less fuel

There used to be two screws. They eliminated the air adjust screw on later Nikkis, like yours, so that screw only adjusts fuel.

Top screw on a 79 is idle airflow (open to increase air equals faster idle & leaner mix)

Bottom screw is fuel mix (close to decrease fuel equals leaner, but not as much effect on idle)

Joe, us SA owners always have to let people know we're dealing with an SA. Many engine-management details changed from 79 & 80 to 81.

My bad this is my first sa engine on account of the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the sa bodies but my 79 engine is in an 83 s model with an 85 gsl rear end

Not sure how you couldve known however when it comes to 1st gens you can't assume it has the engine it came with 20 somethin years ago either lol
