BTW, I wrote the seller about the paint overspray in the engine bay. He initially gave me a song and dance about not knowing what overspray was, then supposedly went out the next day to look and found nothing. On the off chance that this car is a complete pig-in-a-poke, I'll forward the email to the winning bidder if they need help proving the car was misrepresented--also assuming there is in fact overspray under the hood (sure looks that way to me).

Why the excitement over that car? The mileage is up there, and you could get the same look with most cars, a Maaco paint job, a steam cleaner for the interior, and some armor all for the tires...

This one may be a good one, but without the new paint. Southern car.

I would happily consider up to $6k for this car... Try and find a nicer Se locally than this...
It odviously isnt perfect, but damn close.
Not to mention it will help the church build what they are building.

I have no idea why the hype? I would much rather buy a straight car with (original) oxidized paint than something that's been repainted and you don't know what's underneath. I made that mistake once when buying a car that has been repainted. I found out later it had been crashed and sold it at a loss. One of many valuable lessons I have learned in my car buying days. There's a ton of clean cars out there, you just gotta know where to look. There is usually a handfull of them in NorCal. I know of one right now, I think it's an s model or gs because no pwr windows, 84-85, it's Original beige with shiny paint, zero accidents, brown interior $1,000 obo! This car is perfect. Unlike the one on ebay.

holy shyt!!! prices are insane. I have a near mint 84 GSL, white exterior, burgandy leather interior in mint condition, with 101,000KMS equ to about 80,000 miles.
How much do you think this is worth?

not near mint
ok this car looks nice in the pics, but nice is not mint. Everything is relative. In order for this car to be mint it should still have factory paint and clear coat. 121k miles, this car has been driven, look at the engine bay, its in OR do you know the crappy weather they have there? Its been in the rain, snow, salt and mud, a chick drove this car.
I have an 84 se w// 84k I call it "mint". the engine bay is very clean, you could eat off the underside of the hood. Orig paint, leather seats w/o a scratch or tear. Black window trim still black, no silver peaking from flake. I paid alot for this car - 6k - I admit that, was it worth it, I have not found anything even close in years of looking on and off. I have been offered 7, will I get that again depends on the time and chance of finding the right buyer.
now my 85 has a little wear, the paint is orig, the engine bay is cleaner then the 84. The great guys at MAZDONLY in Atlanta could not believe the shape of the car, "i have not seen a car like this since 1985". they figured 6k for it, I paid 4.
I dont think any car with redone paint is mint, allowing for some tru customs.
$2250 tops in my world.

Yeah, here's the key: it's an -SE, and it's in the NW. Not CA, not back East, in the NW. We have no nice -SEs for sale here.
Also, it's just stupid to compare a mint GS/GSL to a mint -SE. Hell, a decent -SE wins out over the best non-SE. This auction versus the auction for the absolutely gorgeous GSL in GA(?) last week is the perfect example of that. That car topped out at $3.7K, while this nice -SE is gonna go $4.2K+.

I wasn't looking for one, I found it by accident It had 34k miles on it so it was worth a look. Checked it out today and noticed that the rear end had been repainted. Looked closer and I could see a crease or something under the paint like an accident repair in two spots on the rear. The guy told me before I went that it was all original. First thing I noticed was some overspray onto the tailight gasket. I said this car has been repainted? He said "I think the rear was for some unknown reason". He seemed surprised I noticed. I told him no thanks, I didn't want to buy the car but asked what he was looking to get. He said he should be able to get 7500 on ebay so he was going to try that. You guys will probably see it on ebay in the next few weeks. It's burgandy with gray interior. We'll see if he's honest in the add and mentions that the rear had been repainted . A prime example why I never trust car's that have been repainted. It was in Irvine CA. VERY clean car other than the problem I saw with the rear.

Looks pretty good right? I really didn't need it for that price though. He wouldn't tell me the price until I looked at it in person. I'm sure It will bring in around 7k on ebay.

It still LOOKS like a very nice example of a GSL-SE, but without service records and names of all previous owners it ain't worth $7K. Maybe $4500, and even then check EVERYTHING: behind storage bins, insides of wheel wells, under side of rear lip under the bumper, inside of rear quarter panels aft of wheel wells, undercarriage, front unibody components, and engine compression and pressurized coolant leak-down check. Also pull the distributor out and inspect the shaft. Varnish build-up here = very poorly maintained car. Leave no stone unturned, and put nothing down beforehand.

Yeah, I agree, there is probably more to that car. The wheels were pretty scraped up from something. Also it's funny because this guy came to my friends house to buy a gray dash a few months ago. I was bringing this friend to look at the car and I was telling him the guys name and that the guy had a son with a gs with only 40k on it and he said it sounded like the same guy that came over to buy the dash off of him. Sure enough, when we got there it was. At the time he bought the dash, he told my friend that it was because the cold air vents on his se (the one for sale, he actually drove it to my friends that day) were not working on one side. Why would you buy a complete dash to fix one cold air vent? Also, why would a car with only 35k miles have a broken vent? He said it didn't open and close when you moved the lever for it. BTW even though I wanted to stay far away from that car, I did ask him if he would sell it for 4500 and that's when he said he should be able to get 7500 for it so I took that as a no on the 4500. I was just trying to feel him out on what he wanted for it.
