mechanical water temp gauge. wheres the probe go

anyone using a mechanical water temp gauge?
Im not sure where I need to put the probe.
let me correct that and say im not sure where I can put it. It seems like I have to MAKE a place to put it.
It would be nice to just screw the thing in and be done with it.

it goes on the back side of the waterpump housing where the factory choke tem probe went. you can get a metric to sae adapter if you dont want to re-tap the hole

Yes you do need to weld a nut onto the housing to accept the pipe threaded sender seat. We used a regular heavy nut and cut it in half with a saws all, drilled a hole in the housing and then I took it to a welder who tacked and welded it into place. You can see it in this photo.

I always weld the extra an bung that comes with the gauge right to the surface. Then all you have to do is drill a hole.

Your idea works well too.

im just saying that you usually dont need the nut, just weld the bung that usually comes with the gauge.
Unless you need more clearance that is.
