Thanks for the info. Is this a tiny model or something fairly large?

oh. That's tiny.

I thought it would be like the Visible V8, which is about 14" long without a tranny.

I got mine from Edmunds...be warned though, the kit, although popular, is of poor quality. I had to call several times to get missing pieces sent out. The pieces are cheaply formed and will require careful sanding to get smooth operating rotary. I've yet to finish mine, just too tedious....

Edmund Scientifics has a web site, and a free catalog, of which I recently recycled.

Right on.

I ordered one right before you posted that, brownmound

(I hate having to correct warped model kit pieces)

It's only 20 bucks.....and just to let you know I am no model builder, though I did recreate the Mound quite nicely once. It might work out for you better, just be patient with it, sand the burrs real good or your rotors won't be smooth.

Did they have it in stock? Mine was on backorder for a month....

Oh, and I did try to post this response last night, but the forum was actin' an *** and wouldn't let me.

Let us know how it goes...I'm sure with your handicraft you will get it spinnin'.

Right on.

Just noticed it's motorized and spins - you'd think I'd have read that before ordering *L*

Does it spin as a real rotor should or does it just rotate a rotor looking piece of plastic in a circle? Manntis - where did you get the V8 kit?

My father got me the V8 kit when I was about 6. It was made by ERTL or Revell or one of those common ones.

Should be available in any hobby store worthy of the name

No man the thing spins like a good rotary should! It even has four little lights that light up in sequential order, leading and trailing...hence you have to build a little distributor and everything. I mean the thing is cool, just lo-fi. Let us know what you think Mantis.

Right on.

Wow. I didn't think it was that advanced....for 20 bux. Does anything else work or move besides the rotors and distributor? What does the shifter do?

The gearshift turns it on. And the lights light up like sparks....oh yeah there are belts which I think drive a fan....never got that far. I mean, the ******* AA batteries are too big for the damn holder! WTF? **** like that is just frustrating. Maybe I will take some digis and post em.

Right on.

Yeah maybe...I'll check tonight, but if I am that stupid I may want to reconsider my current profession as a structural engineer.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I saw an ad for this model today and it reminded me about the thread. So Mantis, did you get the model, and what did you think of it?

Right on.

I got one a few years ago from edmunds. It's a really cool display piece. But I could never get it to run right. The stupid plastic gear on the motor just slips and the engine wont rotate, and yes it spins freely. It's a POS operation wise, but still a cool display piece.
