MAZDA Oil Filters
#4
Yeah that filter works. Basically mazda uses that filter on EVERYTHING that has a 4 cylinder or a rotary in it with the exception of the 4 cylinder Mazda 6. That uses a cartrige oil filter.
And carl, its not the tall filter like they had the the RX4 and the REPU, its a really short one but it works quite well.

I like the RX-4/REPU tall filters too. Napa brand is made by Wix. You'll have to give them a number because they'll try to sell you the short style.

It may be too tall for some 1st gen applications.

Would the logical filtering and capacity benefits of a larger/taller filter be offset by a pressure drop?
Who's tried it or tested it?
I'd wager no assuming that the RX-4 and REPU use a 12a although the workload on the REPU will be different from an FB.

As it turns out, Newer Honda oil filters are the same.
I used to work at a place that only used Champ oil filters. Every Honda that came in was a PH2808 I decided to look up the RX-7 and it also was a PH2808...

Word of advice, DONT GET FRAM!! I work at NAPA and yes the wix/NAPA filters are great. They sell a cheaper line called siver line and its the exact same filter, just different color and they add a 2 infron of your regular number.

I use the Mazda filters, and I have had the shorter one and the taller one. I like the taller one for the same reasons as RX-7 Carl

My oil pressure doesnt change regardless of which filter is on there. I just like the extra capacity of the larger filter, less bypassing oil. I did some reading that surprised me about how often the bypass valve is open, allowing dirty oil to bypass the filter.
Oh yea, and I agree. Fram = Teh suck.
I post this everytime we have one of these threads.

That said, I always re-check my oil level the day after the oil change...
