Maybe, Just Maybe... I have the Wrong Parts.

Three months ago I made the biggest mistake of my life, I bought a clutch from AutoZone. I Shattered mine going from second to first a little to high. When I dropped the tranny pieces of the clutch disc started falling went out and placed an order at autozone, took the entire kit back, three times. The first two times they gave me a four spring clutch and the third a six spring clutch, pressure plate has always been about the same, but everytime I would bolt everything up the forks would be puched in instead of out, as if the clutch were engaged, went out and finally bought a LUC Clutch set for 82-88 rx-7 and the same problem, WTF? Torqed to 22LBS? {Please help me !!! anyone hace a photo of the 12a flywheel pressure plate and clutch?

I guess no one ever told you that the spring fingers (my term) are supposed to flex inward as you tighten it down. The sign of the good clutch with lots of life left in it is spring fingers that are basically pointing straight at each other. A worn clutch causes the spring fingers to flex out away from the clutch.

Basically when you bolt down the pressure plate the fingers are supposed to "flatten out" for lack of a better term. The clutch should be fully engauged when the pressure plate is bolted on and the fingers not pushed inward toward the engine. When you push the fingers in with say a throwout bearing on the fork, it releases the clutch, but only physical force will push them in as they are spring loaded to keep pressure on the disk. Hope this all makes sense. But in a nutshell, what you are seeing with the fingers pushing in is what you want to happen. This means that the springs in the pressure plate are putting pressure on the disk.

Thanks. I knew I wasn't the only one who's watched the fingers flatten as the pressure plate bolts are tightened.

Question

Well the Clutch Brand is LUK from Autozone. Now when Torque the Pressure plate down to specification the Forks or Fingers (For Lack of Better Term) Our Inward toward the engine Block, 12A. Now what is going on? can someone maybe post a picture or link me to a page with some visuals? I am sure that if I can see the right clutch I can address whether or not I have the right one. The box says 82-88 RX-7, Four Spring disc. Thanks for the Conjuction-Junction... Off to find the right Function!

Can you take pictures?

I'm sure that what you're describing sounds normal, unless they're pointed *way* in, but pointing in a bit just means you have a nice meaty clutch disc.

I will, I took it off so I need to put it back on before I do. They point in, put to me they almost touch the clutch disc spring? Do you guys have anything you can show me in regards to this?

Maybe you're installing a 225mm pressure plate on a 215mm flywheel. Take a picture, please.

Aren't those RB spacers around 10mm? Scary. I hope he didn't destroy his pressure plate.

LOL.

I don't know why I didn't see this thread when it came out.

As all have stated the fingers on a diaphram clutch must be inward after you tighten them down. :-)
By the way. The amount of springs on the clutch plate varies on the manufacture of the part.
