Mariah Hatch?
#2
I was stumbling around the forums tonight, and noticed this slightly dated post. I hope 3 months later is not too late to answer your question.
The first three pics are obviosly the EXTERIOR of the car with the hatch on.
The fourth is from the inside looking back with the hatch closed.
The last pic is from the outside looking at the hatch open.
Unless you are lucky enough to either find an RX7 with this already on, or catch the hatch for sale here or on eBay (OCASSIONALLY happens !), this will cost you approx. $1500 (BEFORE shipping) through Mariah.
I hope this helps you

Wow. I always thought it was ugly from the outside, but from the inside that rear window looks horrible. There needs to be some sort of trim or something around the huge gap on both sides of the rear glass to the side windows or something.

And I have to say Sgt, although I personally like the outside appearance of this hatch mod, I too was surprised by what it looked like from the inside. I guess you just get used to it after a while.

The rear seats are factory Mazda seats that came with every RX7 in Japan and Australia, possibly Europe too?
They weren't available in the USA, you guys got storage bins instead...which was a better deal, trust me.
The gap between the top of the rear seat and the bottom of the hatch is about 2 inches at most, the camera angle doesn't take a real good picture of it. When your sitting in the car you don't really notice that there is a gap at all as you are looking down at the rear window. You can use the rear seat belt buckle as a scale reference to the gap size.
Also the gap between the sides of the hatch and the side windows is very small. I could only just fit in the 6 inch speakers in there, I couldn't mount them any higher as they wouldn't fit between the hatch and the side windows, again the camera doesn't really take the best picture of it.
But hey, like what was said, ya get used to it.
Oh, and the hatch retails for US$912, not $1500! less if ya pay cash and ask nicely.

Will you be so kind as to tell me where I may purchase this hatch for $912? The cheapest I have seen new was on the Mariah site for $1150. Thank you very much for your valuable time !
(Was THAT nice enough?)

They said "no worries, we'll bring a new one with us". So I flew from Perth to California, met Jim the owner of Mariah at Sevenstock and organized to buy one off him, and then posted it back to myself in Perth.
Last time I checked the website it had the listed price as US$912. I bought it for less than that.
...and yeah the pic's are from my car.

I dunno man... Probably ruins the aerodynamics, eliminates all storage space, and looks like a bit of a hack job from the inside...
I can think of a few dozen other things to spend my money on...

I think a -7 may be the only sports car that can be used to transport a 4x8 sheet of plywood, without tying it to the top.
This, also, has been done.
It'll carry a lot more in the hatch area than my 350Z can hope to.
