Question Manual window problems

The manual window on my 83 gs won't roll up straight. I have removed the panel, greased up the parts and adjusted the bolts that hold the mechanism in, but when i roll it down, and attempt to roll it back up it either jumps the front track or partially rolls up crooked. I even broke out the haynes manual to no avail. Any ideas? or perhaps somebody has a better diagram than whats in Haynes?

Thanks Guys,

Steve

well i had and still have the same problem. i had electric motors in mine, and replaced them with manual regulators from a junkyard. it fixed the passenger side problem, but the drivers side is always hard because it gets the most wear and tear. my drivers side still doesnt go up and down right, so i took off the crank, but in so cal, it gets hot so i put it back on and deal with cranking it crooked and not having it up all the way. i suggest a new electric regulator, but its expensive. i could be wrong, someone correct me?

I had the same exact problem at one point and it frustrated the hell out of me. I finally just ended up some how, when rolling the window back up, it jumped back on the track and i haven't had any problems yet. I had someone help me roll it up the first few times. Just have someone hold the window on both side and pull back and up while you roll it up. eventually it should jump back on track. Theoretically

Its annoying more than anything, but in Virginia, the driver's window has to work to pass inspection There's always something!

Are the felt window guides that are in the track still there. I know that my passenger side window is missing part of one and it is a pain to get up and down.

Actually they are missing.. I have replacements, but was going wait to put them on after I get it painted.. I'll give that a try and see how it goes

Thanks!

Have same problem window jumps out of the track.
All i did was slot the bolt hole that holds the front track in place. Moving it back .250 did the trick.

i have the same problem, i have been driving around with my panel door panel off trying to evaluate the problem i believe it ias a # of things first is the if your door is a lil off making the closing procedures rough it will knock the window out of the front track. the window pops out and back because the rub ber grommet the the handle sits in is bad allowing play the up/down gear. i think for my situation if i took off the front quarter panle and fixed the door to close smoothly this would eliminate rough closings on the window when it is down but at the same time the rubber grommet needs to be replaced as well as. a lil fabrication of the front track like an extensionsome howtack welded on there. something would eliminate what seems to be a common problem. but i believe it is all caused from a improperly closing door.

Its fixed! Here's what i found out: First, putting the felt strips on helped keep the window lined up wth the slot at the top of the frame, but still did not help with it jumping the front track. Turns out the front track is held in place by an L-bracket with the adjustment screw. This bracket had been bent forward toward the hinge of the door. Bending this back, and adjusting the 3 adjustment screws has solved the problem! I suppose the question is for how long..

Hope this helps some of you guys...

Is there any way to beef up the L brackets so they dont bend? Maybe using two brackets on top of eachother? That would probably make the window work for a long time without problems.

did anyone not read my response. it is permanent. also i tried the exact same thing with the bracket it lasted like 2 days. i have been driving around slamming my door with the window in cariuos positions and the hole works perfect.
