LSD swap

I just picked up a 85 GSL rot box that was sitting in Laconia NH for 5 or 6yrs that im stripping for parts i need (Differential, rims - tires, taillights, hatch pieces, and some other things) if anyone wants to buy a part im not using send me a PM (btw engine is spoken for)

But anyway the real reason im posting is to find out what kinda parts i might need to order before i swap out the differential. I know i need new disks/rotors cause they are all rusted but other than that i have no idea. Any suggestions?

If you have a GS model the brake line is different on the rear end.. to solve this problem I baught a fitting that screws directly into the coupler (1 to 2) splitter..

Thats the only modification that I had to do.. if you want more info let me know its a quick swap with a friend you can do it in one day but dont forget that most of those bushings will need to be burned out because they tend to become one piece with the bolts. Also I would recomend changing the bushings all together and installing Eurothane ones its time consuming but really worth it

yes mine is the base too lighter..

How about this I will give you pics and explain how and what I did.. tommorow I will post them up.. Honestly the only thing that gave me a problem was the brake cable adapter and also you will probb need a jack to get that rear end in place thats the only thing I had a problem doing I was by myself but it still worked out..

one more thing you will need the E-brake cable out of the car with the LSD rear end with the Discs because they are different.

Pick up a catalog from blackdragonauto.com

I'd pick up all new bushings for the control arms and watts linkage. It's a good time to do them while you're down there messing with stuff... but that's just me, I like to do things as one big system and I find it easier to swap the whole rear in compared to trying to swap just the pumpkin and having to mess with the innards and setting things like "preload"....

If you were going to swap the whole rear end, the things you'd *need*:

- Brake master cylinder (different for discs and drums, but I *think* the brake booster is the same)
- Rear brake lines and hoses
- discs, calipers, caliper brakets, e-brake cable
- Brake Pads

and things you'd *want*
- Control Arm and Watts Linkage bushings
- Gear oil w/ LSD additive

I *think* that's it. everything else should fit perfect 'cause they're both 85s.

Killam, from your profile it looks like you've got an 85, so you can just swap the differential.

But if you're doing the whole axle, viper^ has you covered.

Rear Control arm bushings (they have a "set")
Watts linkage bushings (again, another "set")

And an optional one is sway bar end links and sway bar bushings.
