I want to level out the car but not sure what to use to cut the springs. I know, cut buy new. Money for new springs is hard to come by right now with buying the car and getting it running. The 12a has 161,000 on the clock and I've done most of the other things to get it running good. Just need to get it to handle and stop better.

I'm sure you can find some used lowered springs from somewhere for cheap. If you cut the stockers you'll probably risk bottoming the shocks out which isn't very good for their health.

I lowered my '83 by cutting the springs with a hacksaw. It took forever!
If I do it to my '85 I'll use a dremel with the fiber reinforced cutting wheels. Racing Beat says 1/2 coil on the rear will lower the car about 3/4" and stiffen spring rate 5 to 10 percent. RB says not to cut any more.
I cut less and it worked well. Except, I cut the bottom of the rear springs which cut off the portion that seats on the rear-end. It left a stiff spring end sticking out that occationally popped off the rear end seat with a "boing". I had to install a metal strap across the spring end and bolted to the rear end spring base. After that, it looked good and worked well.
