I think he means getting rid of the pop-up style headlights and changing to the flush projector beam style. I'd pay $250 or less for a full kit which includes the lights and the housing and decent installation instructions.

I've been looking for something like this but nobody makes it.

The market is there for a good, affordable low profile, sleepy, or flush mounted headlight kit for the FB.
Price should stay below $350 for a "complete bolt in kit" to do any sort of volume.

Just my 2 cents.....

yeah i wish somebody would make a sleepy eye headlight kit for the fb.....but since i have found nobody im just going to make it myself. Im going to buy two HID projectors off ebay along with the ballasts and everything...and then im going to get two small driving lights as brights. Once i have them mounted in right i can just use some ABS plastic sheets to make a surround for them.

I never really liked the "sleepy eyed" look for our cars...but if you come up with a great design...lets go for it.

People have tried and just were not able to make it happen. I hope you can make it happen! Good luck and please keep us posted!

Personally the only reason i dont like the fb headlights is because i don't like the round head lights. If they made them square and they didn't have to raise up that high to expose the head headlights, i think that would be perfect. I think our pop ups doesn't look porportionate with the rest of the car.

just my two cent

It's a personal preference. The design is the way it is. It's part of the vehicles creation and history. Anything else is a mod for your own pleasure. But can never be superior... only different.

Personally, the ONLY headlights I like on any 7 are the original popups. No sleepy eyed or fixed conversions for me, but like mentioned, if you can come up with a good quality, functional and easy to install design, there is a market for it.

Anyway. I got a four day weekend starting thursday and a short day tomorrow, so Ill be able to make some good head way on this and hopefully monday Ill have some solid plans to take back to the shop with me monday to start fabrication

Ever see that one movie, Spartacus? A couple Romans on horseback come to where Spartacus and some men are sitting. The Romans have no clue who is who, so they demand that Spartacus show himself or all the slaves will die. This isn't what he wanted, so he stands and proclaims, "I am Spartacus". Then one by one, someone stands and says "No, I am Spartacus!", until the whole crowd is standing shouting that they are the ones the Romans are looking for. Long story short, Romans leave (after crucifying everyone that is)

Point being, tons of people have claimed to want to make this kit. 99.9% have fell through, or completely vanished without a trace. Will you be the true Spartacus?

No one will mass produce them.. everyone will make a set put them on and that will be it.. this way when someone asks where you got them from you can say i made them.. its all about the ego boost..

For me,its not ego,its just not a very interesting part to make.

I can stroke my ego with the rest of the car, since I did build much of it myself...heh,heh.
But the flush lights were simply a way to remove an outdated looking part of the car(compared to the rest of my exterior),and to shed some weight.Sure,it wasnt hard to adapt the MTM kit to fit my 1st gen,but once it was installed my interest in flush lights or headlights in general was,and still is,zero.

The only reason I haven't started any work is because I don't have the money to get a spare headlight bracket or two from Pick-n-Pull. I made a thread if anyone had a good couple pics of the bare bracket so I could use it as a reference for the light.

Of course, there is the problem of mass production, I wouldn't mind turning out a few of these kits... but the problem lies in the fact that I lack the shop to do that with. :Sweatdrop all my work is done at the school metal shop on the weekends.

Well I guess that means there is a thread to revive and maybe this weekend scrounging up the cash...

By the way... has anyone been able to find a wholesale HID kit? I was looking for a kit with just the projectors, bulbs, and related circuitry and no housing to install?

Once i get some money to spend on that i will do it....just gotta spend my cash on other stuff at the moment. And i also gotta find the right projectors.

Also i doubt i will make any for anybody else since it probably wont be an easy bolt in kit like most people want.

That's actually one of my design constraints for drawing up plans, which is why I want pics of the original frame for the headlights.

And if you have ever removed your headlights as one piece, the hinge piece bolts onto the frame, so really all you need is the frame to be made to:

1.) Fit within the original dimensions; minus height of course (roughly 3-4 inches removed looks to be good?)

2.) Match the bolt and screw holes with the original ones; i.e. headlamp cover with new frame and hinge assembly to new frame.

3.) Create or modify original linkage for the headlight motors so that they function properly. (keep in mind you will not be forcing the lamp as high and so you need to adjust accordingly.)

and it should just bolt in...
