looking for moar quiet. half bridge
hey guys, so i have a Frankenstein engine
in the short, gslse housings, 12a irons, s5 na rotors, 48ida weber and full dual rb exhuast... and it's bridgeported
now i was running just a straight pipe after the duals ended and they went over the axle. absurdly loud. i have added a thrust muffler (yeah cheapy i know) but it's still extremely loud. idea's to quiet it down a little?

Get the COMPLETE exhaust system. The rear muffler is a large percentage of the noise abatement. The mid mufflers seem to be there more for tone adjustment than significant quieting.
Same system, no rear muffler (broke it off )

My take is, exhaust systems are too much of a PITA to fabricate and expensive to experiment with. By the time you try out a couple different exhaust setups, you could have just bought the RB system and been done with it for the same expense, less hassle, and better results.
I have been looking into making my own replacement center section. After buying the flanges, Magnaflow mufflers (which won't work as well as the RB presilencers, as the RB units are part muffler and part resonance chamber/silencer) and lengths of stainless tubing and bends, I'd be up to a significant percentage of the cost of just ordering a new one from Racing Beat. And then I merely have to bolt it in. Time is more expensive than money, you can get more money but you can't get more time.

^^^ this.
i'm on exhaust system 2.0, and the total cost of 1.0 + 2.0 was more than the RB system brand new.
2.0 melted the center mufflers in 2 laps, and is actually starting to sag, as its slowly melting off the car.

I just learned RB is making the SP rear muffler now differently, and out of stainless.
I'll have one in front of me in 2 weeks so I can give you guys the skinny. Thought this might be relevant...

Yeah I didn't even know about that until I asked them when I was there today. I was like aren't these supposed to be black like on your website? And they're like yeah they used to be but now they make it full stainless

It being stainless isn't the big deal to me. The construction is. Rumor is that you can drop a golf ball straight through it, so it's a different muffler entirely.

No, the tips have little trumpets in them that are only about 1" ID. They have a funnel shape at each end. This is important because it shapes the exhaust note; it stretches and slightly delays the pulse to make it is little quieter without causing a restriction. Pretty smart idea.
