Looking at buying a 1984 rx7 gsl-se 13B

Been really interested in rx7's for the longest time. Dont know anything about them but would love to learn. Recently found a 1984 mazda rx7 gsl-se 13B for sale for 700 Canadian dollars. Iv'e been talking with the guy and he says he has had it running but it smokes white. Thinks its something to do with the o-rings in the coolant section. (which I know nothing of). Says the transmission feels good but the slave cylinder isnt working. Body wise its not to bad a few small dents and a little rust. Just wondering if this would be a smart purchase? I know nothing about rotary's but would be willing to put the time into learn. Here are some pictures of the car

The price is right. He will only get about 3-400 as scrap so just offer a little more than that and he will probably take it.

Looks like a good restoration candidate.

I agree that it is a great restoration candidate! It looks to be original, down to the original Yakazi plug wires. With that said, it makes me feel that the car was neglected unless it has low miles. Looks to have been serviced with aftermarket parts seeing the Fram filter, the worm clamp on the upper hose, and the aftermarket radiator cap. Even with that said, I'd still jump on it for $700. Offer him $500 and see where it goes.

For that price, jump on it. SE's r getting harder to find. If you have time, patience, $,u can have a sweet, somewhat rare car. At the very least, you'll make your $ back selling parts off of it. The Targa band alone will fetch a cpl hundred.

If it's like the 12A and has coolant ports that go into the intake manifold, those gaskets fail often and coolant gets sucked in through the intake. Could be a simple fix. On the other hand, a coolant jacket in the motor could have gone bad, which is a pain in the booty.

If it wasn't for having 2 GSL-SE... I'd buy this just for parts. Stock rims and the Targa band are getting harder to find.

Agreed, at that price, if it were within a couple of hundred miles from me, I'd have bought it already just for spare parts - which are getting harder and harder to find. Good luck, whatever you decide,

Body looks to be in good shape. Seems like a good price and with some work could be a great car.
