Compared to one DCD, yes, compared to two... well, it's still not as drivable.

I've have DCD's on my RX-7 since sometime in '87-89. They've been great. I've messed with them probably not more than a 1/2 dozen times. I've found that that you don't use washer on the bolt connects the rear carb to to the linkage rod between the two carbs. If you tighten the idle mixture screw too tight it will break. Use a short length of tubing to listen to the carbs to help you get them sync'd up.

this is an excellent tip and not used by too many people anymore. Great advise!

I bought a Uni-syn at the time I bought these things. It's supposed to measure airflow thru the carb. The simple fact of using the thing restricted the airflow causing the readings to be very erratic.

I also ran 36DCDs with great results. I don't know where all the fear with tuning twin carbs comes from. In the case of the Rotary Engineering setup, once I set the idle on both carbs using the tubing trick, I never had to mess with it again. Maybe the VW case is worse because the carbs are physically separated? Either way, VWs are loud, lack power, and don't have a proper radiator. Better to put a rotary in there anyway.
