Look to buy a 1985 rx7
Hi guys new to the forum, please an opinion from you guys here. I am thinking of buying a rx7 for my son. Would it be to much work for him on finding parts in future repairs? The car has 55k GLS any help would be great

Welcome to the forum. 85 GSL is the model you are describing. Majority of consumables...tires,brakes,filters,plugs,wires,bra ke hoses, rotors, clutch kits are readily available and will be for some time. Some performance parts still available for these cars. Fenders still available new from Mazda for this car. Some interior trim and exterior trim NLA new but can be found in classifieds used on this website. Windshields still available, door, side, hatch glass available used from partouts.
Is this to be a daily driver? This car is soon to be 35 years old. These are good cars but they are old cars. The one you're looking at has low listed miles(i would need to verify that)and it may need a lot of work in suspension/brake systems to have it be safe to drive. If this is an original owner, there should be maintenance records available for the car.
Being an East Coast car, possibilities of hidden rust are real and car needs to be inspected very carefully. I have seen low mile examples that looked and ran great but the underpinnings were absolutely rotted. The amount of money to fix this kind of damage is certainly to be more than the car is worth and if rust has gotten a real hold there is a point where there's nothing that can be done. This has happened to me and the car in question became a parts car for a chassis with no rust that ran poorly and the car once stripped was scrapped.
Look in the General Discussion section of this forum for a thread titled"New Owner"and read thru that and you will get more detail of what i have touched on in this thread. Good luck, low mileage immaculate finds happen. I hope this happens for you, your son, these are special cars.

Welcome. No mention of price. Your son will need some sort of local mechanical support, which should be fine for most mundane stuff: cooling, fluids, suspension - basics. Tuning is actually pretty straight forward and these cars are in many ways SO much simpler to work on, being 95% "analogue" (electronic ignition! wooHOO!
If your boy and his Dad like to wrench, then there is a world of info and support to keep you on the road.
Unless your area is an exception, you can expect prob minimum support from Mazda dealers (unless yours is a really old, established dealership with a few older mechs about...not likely). Parts, sure, but beyond that...
Keep us posted. Let us see and hear more details about the car so we can advise!
