Long shot: Mariah Mode 1 airdam?
Well, my 16 year old son decided to repay my going into battle with his mom so he could get a 91 NA by taking my 84 SE with the Mariah widebody kit without my permission. Misjudged a curve, went down a 75 foot embankment, narrowly missing a tree. Main damage (none to him, fortunately) is the front airdam is now in 3 shredded pieces.
Any chance of getting a good used one? Thought so. Anyway, had to try. Been wanting to learn how to work on fiberglass, now's my chance.

So little time and money
DAMN that sucks. Kids should know better! Esp since you argued for his 91N/A. I wish I had a dad as cool as you. Haha anyways, good luck on the airdam replacement.

Fiberglassing is similar to paper mache, get a can of resin and a sheet of fiberglass, $10-20. The logical way of doing it i'd say is putting it together with brackets and screws from the back, grind off the screw ends, then just use body filler to fill in the cracks and screw ends.

I already have the stuff and am doing the fiberglass work right now. I even got one of those aerosol spray bottles that I put some paint in. We'll see how it turns out, kinda fun to work on, knowing I can't hurt anything at this point.
BTW, I'm not such a cool dad anymore, I just sold his NA.
He'll be taking the 'nike express' for a while, until I can find something like a Gremlin, Pacer, or Yugo for him. Also, he reads this forum, anyone have any other comments for him?

When reglassing use clamps to hold the pieces together,
lay down some resin, then cloth, then resin again and make sure it's soaked. do the work on the underside.
Yes foolish, your still probaly a cool dad, after all you own a 7.

Man that is a tuff story, too bad.
All I can say is that your son needs to remember, this:
You can do ANYTHING you want in life, as long as you are prepared to deal with the concequences, wether they be good or bad.
This was an Unwise choice with unfaverable with concequences.
Now he is having to live with the outcome. In this case No FC
Good luck with the fiberglassing
anthrax

You can get the airdam for $565.
I'd hate to be your kid right now.

He works at a local supermarket, yes, he'll be paying. He's hoping my amature fiberglassing skills are better than I expect them to be.
We went to the wreck site today and picked up the last missing piece. More assembly this weekend.
The cool thing was, his car was at Kevin's (Rotary Resurrection) having work done when he decided to 'borrow' my car, exactly one hour after I called him from work to remind him not to touch it until time for work.
We met at Kevin's tonight with the folks that came to pick up the car. He got to drive it around the block for the last time, with the 5th and 6th ports now working actuated by an electronic pump, a ACT clutch, and two new RB mufflers, and all emissions removed.
He was literally sick when he got back, the car was really screaming.
It was good, however, to see that the kid that bought it so excited. His brother has a 3rd gen that Kevin just rebuilt.
I'll miss the car too, but at least it's going to a rotary-loving family!

****. $ 500.00 dollors ! re-glass that sucker. I mean, you know try, it might turn out good. and save the bucks. you never know . If the frontend is in like, big broken pieces. i'd say to 'glass-in some strips of metel too,
for bracing that way the front won't sag.

Now THAT is a great idea, I'd never have thought of it.
Thanks, will do!

Don't forget the $50 front end alignment!
Seriously, 75 feet is a ways to fall, there's got to be more bent **** than just the front air dam. He's probably very lucky that it wasn't much worse...
I took my Dad's '84 back in '84, and while I didn't wreck it, I was promptly pulled over for driving like an ******* (at age 15 w/out so much as a farm permit, doh!)
I'll never forget that, the look of disappointment on his face, to this day...
Good thing for me I turned out to be such a good son and got revenge in the end, he's too old to give much of a **** what he drives, and I've got a nice little rotary family started!!!
LOL!!!

i got a 93 ford escort i rebuilt for my sister. she used to have a late 80's subaru. it had a turboed boxer engine in it. she some how managed to blow the turbo, bend a valve, crack the a head, and ruin a piston. so i decided i'd get her a car she wouldn't hurt herself in. i went to a salvage yard and found a 93 ford escort that was beat to hell. body was trashed, interior was gone, no engine. i put a new engine in it, new stearing(linkages and all), re-fabed interior ,redone body, and a nice little exhaust(not loud or ricie, just little rumble). first week she had it, she rear ended someone. she tells me this big sob story about how she didnt' have enough stopping power. so me (tim allen JR) decided to put in a more powerful braking system. the car stoped on a dime now. i gave her the keys again and said be careful. about 3 weeks later she side swiped someone. she again gave me this sob story about how she was sliding. well i told her don't go so fast. she tells me "if you didn't want me to go fast then why did you give me a fast car". knowing that the car wasn't fast at all i said "it's not a fast car it's a econo box. treat it like one and be gentle." i then repaired the body and painted it. i gave her the keys again. 10 days later she side swips someone again. she say the road was bumby and i was sliding. i couldn't steer the car right. i said oooook, why didn't you just stop. she says"well i didn't want to stop in the middle of the road and back traffic up". so i go to work on this car again. i put a custom suspention on it that lowered it by .5 in. gave it back to her. she complained the ride was too rough. so i took the tires off and put taller tires on it. she never complained again. partialy b/c i gave her the reciepts for all the parts. she still owns me somewhere around $3500.
anywho. i'm selling this car. it runs great. if you can drive a car(unlike my sister) it does nice. i tuned the engine myself and did some head work and did enough work to make it get 32 mi/gal in town. the interior is completly new. new body(replaced what could be taken off and fixed the rest), new paint, upgraded brakes, custom suspension(smoothest ride i've ever had in a car. if he can drive, he'll never get hurt in this car.
reason i'm selling it is i just got a 91 eclipse GST. i've had it in my garage working on it. the guy sold it to me b/c as he said "the revs jump when you push the gas but you don't go anywhere" i got it for $750. perfect body, black with skirts, tinted. 97k mi, perfect interior. i looked at the car. my first thougth was clutch. i got in, turned it on, put it in 5th gear and dropped the clutch. the car jsut sat there and was still running. i gave theguy the money and towed it home. i've put a nice clutch i, custom intake manifold(wistles like non-other), exhaust, a rebuild turbo with ungraded internals(it'll push 20 psi). this is my sisters b-day present. i hope she doesn't hurt herself. it's been 3 years sense shes goten in an accident.
email me if you want either car. i may just get her a 3000gt that i found instead. the escort is going for $1000 and the eclipse is $3000. jerad@travisbsd.org
