Does anyone know what the original color on the rear hatch logo was? I thought it would be something light, silver or white, but when I took a close look, before I painted it (which I'm now not going to do) it looks to me like the original is black - black on black, how 80's. Here's a picture:

All my logos have always been black... I thought the silver just wore off over the years...

 

mines silver, i think eventually they fade to black

 

I thought they were silver and faded to black too, but I looked real close at both my beige 84 GSL and my brown 85 GSL and there's not a sign of them having been silver at one time, not a trace of silver paint. Of course it might have faded off completely, but look at the photo in the first post, sure doesn't look like it.

So I'm wondering, were the silver ones you see occaisionally (like Gregs and Jim Tesla's) originally silver or were they touched up after they left the factory?

Gregs and Jim, could you post a closeup photo or does anyone have a photo of a logo that is half faded so you can see the original silver paint?

I'm into the stock look.

On both my '84, and '85 it has a black backgound with Gold/Brass coloured lettering

I wonder if we have two different types.........depending on the cars color?

My last 84 gsl was also silver and worn down......but my SE is perfectly clean and silver

Both cars were White......gsl had a grey interior and the SE had a red interior.......

 

where are you guys getting this silver one??? all mine have been a faded goldish color, not silver. this is weird.....

 

Mine`s that goldish brass on black aswell... It`s actually hard to see it from far away... It`s sooo funny ... 80% of stupid ricers don`t beleive it`s an RX-7 till you show them either that logo or the one on the front wings. They all expect them to be like " in the movie " ( F A T F )

So it might be silver, or it might be gold, or it might be black, or maybe all of the above, depending on your model. I'd like to stencil a nice silver RX-7 logo on top of the black one I already have, but I don't want it to look stupid. I'm kinda of liking the gold idea, can anyone post some pictures?
