Angry locked out

ok, i kinda deserved this but it still really sucks.

I went out to my car tonight to find my passenger door frozen shut. this exceptionally sucked because my drivers side lock broke when that door froze shut, and my hatch lock has never worked. So anyway, without really thinking about it i stuck my key in the lock and turned as hard as i could (exactly how i broke the drivers side lock) thinking i could break through the ice. Sure enough, now i can turn my key in the lock all day and my door will stay locked.

now, thanks to my stupidity, i am locked out of my car!!

does anyone know of a creative way to get my doors open?? i am in college and really broke (kind of explains why i didnt fix the other locks..) and i dont have the $$ to call a locksmith.

How do you get locked out of a car you can open with a screwdriver?

lift up the handle and stick a screw driver in the opening under the handle (the one towards the rear). The wiggle around till you see the door lock moving and pry up.

Well, it seems that we all have the problem with freezing locks and frozen door seals.

Just today I was outside trying to get to work and my lock was a bit frozen, but not bad enough. I figure I need to spray some WD-40 in there, ya think that'd work? I've also noticed that the door seals freeze too. In fact, when it gets REAL cold, I can't even open my doors. I can unlock them, but the seals around the door are frozen to the car. Last winter, I'd have to enter the car through the hatch.

You could also call a cop and let them know you need your car unlocked. They'll bring a slim jim and pop it open for free.

That all depends on the area you live in. Because here they don't do that for you anymore.

Guess it doesn't hurt to try and call though.

Hey man with you get your car open, smear a bit of petrolium jelly (Vasoline) on the door seals, this will help sofften the seals, and keep water from getting between the seals and the car again.

I did this on my GFs '89 Turcell after her doors froze shut and she never had another problem.

Good luck

I do believe the door handle trick with the screwdriver should have been sent via PMs or other private means, now anyone who browses this forum will see this.

Anyone who cares to know how to break into an Rx-7 knows how. These cars are hardly secure.

What about getting into a hatch that's locked shut? I can get into the car through the doors, but I can't get the back glass open no matter what i do. I try the pop button, key in the lock...nothing seems to work.

crawl into your trunk area and start feeling around for the release lever that the electric solenoid is attached to. give it a pull and your hatch will pop... then remove and rebuild the latch before closing the hatch again... never drive with the latch removed and the rear window unsecured, or you will learn that your hatch glass is worth more than your car.

edit:
BTW: the screwdriver thing is new to me, but need not be supressed.. I built a slim jim outta packing strap years ago and to this date, no car is easier to open than the FB rx-7.. takes me 10 seconds, either side.

the screwdriver thing only really works on old worn out locks. good locks will not just turn and open.

for the problem with frozen doors and locks, a hair dryer works wonders. i've thawed frozen pipes with one before.

When I lived in PA, my door locks would occasionally get water in them and freeze shut. I just carried a lighter around with my in winter.

Heat the key, slide it in a little, heat it again, slide it in further. Sooner or later the key will be far enough in that you can then apply constant heat to it. After a few seconds, you can then turn the key.

Never did any damage to the key, paint, or lock.
