a little smoke and lower oil pressure
ok, so I was coming back from the motorpool yesterday after COB on my way home. About half way home i noticed white smoke rolling out of my exhaust
I pull over and go and check out my tailpipe to see if its coolent or oil buring, only by that time the cars not smoking. Go figure. Anyway, I get back in and rev the car a few times and when it gets to the higher end of the rpms, around 5000 or so, its blows smoke, but just a little. I get home just fine, no oil pressure drop, engine temp stays even.
Well, I was going to just chock it up to maybe water getting in my tail pipe since we've had alot of rain and my exhaust is aimed a little up cause the muffler hangers broke and I had to slide the hanging bolts through the middle hole instead of the bottom where its supposed to go. But then when I got off the freeway today (was driving kinda hard, some guy is an esuvee thought he was fast) I noticed that my oil pressure had dropped down past 60 psi, infact it dropped all the way to the first line past the 0 line. which Im guessing is about 20 psi, maybe lower.
Now Im kinda nervous, I got a race day tomorrow and I dont wanna break my engine (though it would be the perfect excuse to finally do my 13b tII swap). Any ideas on whats going on? or was it jsut water in the pipe and Im being paranoid?

Check the wire on the oil pressure sending unit. Sounds like its probably just a loose or dirty connection.
For the smoke; was it doing this when you let off, or was it when you were driving hard? When oil control rings get worn out, oil will get sucked past them when you decelerate at high rpms, causing the infamous "smoke screen". This will also happen when you have the oil level too high...
If the problem turns out to be the oil control rings, run a search on Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer...

I also have noticed alot of oil building up around my oil pan, and a little higher, but have not seen any leaking from the housing s or plate seals. Ill investigate a little farther later today or tomorrow.

ok, so I peaked a look while I was returning my tuning to a more smogable setup after the autocross today and found that the front cover on the passenger side just to the left (or right if your looking front to back) of the air pump. And the oil pan gasket is in definite need of replacing. so I guess when I swap exhausts and carbs Ill be doing that as well

IDA's? Dont know, but I have one on the way. and a RB header for the 12a, Ill try the luacs oil treament trick first. It really doesnt smoke all that bad. Maybe a little conditioning of the seals will do just the trick. and if it works then that means I can keep saving up for the big build I wanna do, if not then I only wasted 10 bucks.

Just make sure that you remove enough oil so that you don't overfill the system.
My motor has bad oil control rings, but thanks to the lucas I've been able to delay the impending rebuild for over a year now. The only time I get deceleration smoke now is when I'm really running her hard at an autocross. That, I can live with.

Heym jsut noticed your from the rapids. Man I miss being home, Im from waterford, next to pontiac, or about 40 miles to the kinda north mostly west of detroit. I didnt think I would miss MI as much as I do, but It sucks down here. But the autocross is good. Much longer with less people then the one they hold (or did, dont know if they still have it there) at the silverdome's parking lot. I miss waterford hill though, I lived like 1/4 mile from that track, me and a buddy would sit on his van and watch the races all the time.

Yeah, they still race at the silver a few times each year. Haven't been over for that one yet though. If I lived a 1/4 mile from Waterford Hills, I don't think you'd ever get me to move!

Smoke fr Exhuast
1st I would like to say I'm new to this fourms, So i'm still try'n 2 find my way around. But anyways, I have a GSL-SE Carb 13B bridge portd. I know I'm running rich with the size carb i have, i was told its a 660 or something, Something that feeds v8's lol. I have a fully stock exhuast just wit a tip to keep the flames away from the bumber. When I 1st start up i smoke, of course 2 warm up. But lets say if I've been drive'n all day, 2wards the end of the day, it would smoke when I'm still. When I would get on it harder i can see smoke shoot'n out then i let go n flames out. I'm not frade of fire, but smoke... Is it just cuz I'm rich or is there a bad seal. I dont smell oil, more gas then anyhing. I was told Apex Seal. So if u could help, very Appricated. Sorry so much detail = \
