Nope 12a pickup works just fine.
You will also have to modify the front engine bracket a little bit or get the conversion bracket from Racing Beat/Mazdatrix You can not use the bracket off a GSL-SE.
You will end up with a bunch of extra wiring that you will no longer need but your car is already wired for the distributor you will be using.
Also you will need to get an Oil cooler and lines to mount in front of the radiator the easiest one to use will be off a GSL-SE the easiest to find will be off a 79-82 Rx-7 the second can be used but you will have to fab up some brackets. For the first one your 85 chassis already has the provision for the oil cooler.
I am sure that there are things I am missing look at the mentioned threads
