Let me introduce me and my 81 GSL!
Hello fellow RX-7 club members,
Am kind of new to the club and would like to formerly introduce myself to you guys.
I live in Rockford, Illinois and wanted an RX-7 for a long time. Since the first time i found out about them in Car&Driver tv show. They were showing it in their classics segment.
My trade is landscaping. And am employed at a local company. One day on my way to the next mowing place we went through a street we have been through regularly, but never payed much attention. At a used car lot a really nice looking Mazda cought my attention. On the glass it stated it was an 81 with only 88,000 miles on it. I was suprised by how modern it looked for it's age, which i commented to my fellow workers. As we drove away i was suprised to see on the side emblem is said "RX-7". I could not believe my good luck, i had been looking on ebay and Cars.com for them and the nearest seem to be most of the time five hundred to three thousand miles away. And here it sit on this car lot that also happened to be not too far from my house! And the next suprise was that it was not the only one on the lot...they also had another rx-7 in the back.
After work i headed to the lot to check out it's hours that it was open, but they were close on all the hours and days i was working, even closed on saturdays. So i thought i would not get a chance to check it out and buy it. The next day it rainnned and we got to go home early. So i went to the car lot and had to wait like what seemed two hours because one of the guys that worked there used it as a summer car to go get lunch. When it came i checked it out and i bought it.
That was my 1981 Mazda RX-7 GSL, Tornado silver, 12A engine, 5speeds, four wheel disk brakes, power mirrors (don't work), Cruise control, red leather seats & interior, rear wiper, factory mag wheels. power gas fill door , and hatch release. Sunroof.
It even came with a Workshop manual for a 1983, if anyone want's to trade it, and give me an 81...let me know!
Check out my webpage and Garage section for pics! THANK YOU!!!
btw....tried to attach pics...dont know if it worked.

Exact same thing I have. Nice find, and welcome to the forums.
Only thing different is that I now have the RB street port exhaust, and a street ported 12a, with an 84 GSL-SE tranny.

Thanks guys!
Am very happy and proud to be a member of RX7club.com.
Yeah, that fourth pic is my favorite also, am planning on making it into a poster.
It looks like the car is just about to take off.
