Lean or rich?
3rd gear, WOT, higher rpms = surging
Surging so badly that it is like I am literally taking my foot off the pedal and then slamming the gas back down over and over.
Is the carb getting too much fuel, not enough fuel, or too much then too little?
I don't know if it does it in fourth, I got out of it soon after it started in the 3rd.
I know that I still need tuning, I just need to know which way to go with the tuning....
Le sigh....

A clogged fuel filter will starve the engine, but haven't heard of surging (just steady decline in power). But still, if you haven't changed the filter recently that would be the place to start...

It sounds like the carb is running out of fuel. This could be from many factors. Low float level, low fuel pressure, restricted fuel flow, not enough volume of flow from pump.
In other words, start inspecting the entire fuel system.

New fuel filter and new fuel lines from the tank to right after the pumps (yes, pumps). I have two Facets that I use for street use, and when needed, I have a Holley Red on a switch. Fuel is reaching the carb, I promise.
I do know is that my pilot jets are relatively small, but pilot jets only control throttle from 0-20%. I have it this way for fuel economy, but the transition from pilot to primary jets is still relatively smooth. Right now, I have a 240 Main Air Jet with a 200 Main Fuel. Pump nozzle is a 60, and I'm 99% positive the pilot jet is a 60, as well. I have 2 boxes of jets for this thing; so, I can try just about anything. I just need to know if I need to adjust lean or if I need to adjust rich. Or maybe I don't need to adjust the carb at all; maybe it's the timing?
My ignition system is compiled of a MSD 6AL and Paul Yaw's Direct Fire Ignition modification. 8mm plug wires connect it all up. NGK BR8EQ-14s are being used with my new motor and were used throughout the entire life of my old engine. However, I think my timing is still off. I only put in a relatively little amount of timing adjustments since this motor went in, and I think it's off. I set the main pulley to 0*, and then twisted the dizzy until the motor seemed a bit better. Should I advance or retard the pulley anyorjust focus on fuel?
I hope I have provided enough info to get some actual help. I realize now that my original post was a bit vague; but it was late, and I was tired. Heh.
Thanks, guys.

Find someone with a timing light and get it set correctly. You aren't by any chance hearing wierd noises at wide open throttle are you? Like some marbles shaking around in a tin can? That would mean too much advance.
Conversely, if your exhaust is unusually hot (perhaps even glowing red), then you are too far retarded (referring again to your timing, not your mental condition).
With all of those fuel pumps, do you have a decent fuel pressure regulator to go with them?

I have a timing light, but to be honest, I don't know what to use as an initial setting. Should I start slightly advanced? Slightly retarded or straight up?
As far as the "marbles in a tin can": I can't distinguish anything other than the "bees in a tin can" sounds from my exhaust. :/
I will say that I fixed the jolting/bucking, though. I think either one of my facets or both of them are messed up. My FPR is only reading 2PSi total from both Facets. I clicked the switch for the Holley Blue, and voila, instant 5.5PSi. Granted, 5.5PSi may be a little much, I'd rather have too much fuel than not enough.
Now, I have to figure out what's wrong with the Facets, tune the carb, and set the timing! Oh wait- that's more things than before. Hehe.

Get the idle down to 1,000 or lower, then plug the vacuum lines to the dizzy for vacuum advance. Hook the timing light up to the front bottom plug and set the mark right at the indicator. This will give you stock timing. You might be able to advance a few degrees more than that, but be very careful of detonation from too much advance.

Also, I'm not sure about running three fuel pumps like that. Are they running in series (all in line)? Having more than one pump in-line might be causing the restriction. You might want to pull the facets out of there and just go with the Holley. That should be able to provide more than enough pressure for you.

just run your holley. You stated FPR, shouldn't it be FPG? If you do not have a FPR you should install one. I hope your pump or pumps are back at the tank. I don't remember the specs for FPR on 13b strretports on the 12a it is 4.5 psi. Alot of guys on this forum believe that the 44phh is too small for a ported 13b. You can get with these guys at this site.

They are very knowledgeable with the mikunis. They might advise you to get larger funnels.

The Holley has it's own line, and the Facets are on one line. A line from the tank goes to a "T", enters and exits the Facets, and goes into another "T" back into one line. It's really an overly complicated setup. The fact that my pumps are over 10 years old probably doesn't help.
The Facets are in the location of the stock pump, and the Holley is mounted closer to the tank. The fuel pressure regulator/guage is mounted under the hood. I have two fuel filters; one before the the pumps and one before the carb.
I've heard on here about the Mikuni being too small and what not, and honestly, I'd like to see results from a flow test. This carb has run well for over ten years, but I would like to know just how much better other carbs may be.
Thanks for all of your help, guys.
P.S. My car idles between 1,000-1,150rpm; it can't just "stay" at 1,000rpm. Is this a problem for when setting the timing back to stock?
