I've never had this problem and my parents have never had this problem. Can't submit it to the poll more than once though, so add another "never had this problem" vote.

However, I'm sure now that I've posted this they've both spontaneously started spewing oil all over...it would be my luck...

You wanna hear the funny part?

I can't use the upper one. It's designed for the GSL-SE, which has the Oil Output down below. I have a Cosmo engine, where the Oil Cooler Output is under the Oil Filter. I have to take that line apart (for the fittings) and use a new line for the top of the Oil Cooler.

I think I might have to weld my oil cooler as well. Even with an empty oil pan, I have a few drops of oil on the ground - right under the oil cooler.

thought I would check in and tell you how my oil cooler repair went ( see my prev. entry) this is my update...it did not work...still leaks bad!!..I had it welded, the guy said he welded 6 cracks??? I thought , well , as long as it works...... it did not work. He must have missed a crack. they are hard to see. I will be taking it off again and my plan is to try and collar both necks. Anyone try it yet??? Its my last try...if it does not work , i will have to get a new one I guess. If anyone has ideas, let me know. This is the only idea I have left. Thanks....cjf.....

Well, I just bought an 84 in great shape but it has the dreaded oil cooler leak (I knew it) in the fins, not the threaded fitting. Anyway, I took it to a shop to get repaired and the guy lost it. So I just ordered a new one from Mazdatrix--I like the idea of having the original equipment. He gave me a nice 2nd gen cooler with the lines but I don't feel like messing with the install--I'll keep it for a spare hopefully many years away--or sell it.

Haha DF, sorry..... I installed a 2nd gen cooler and I made my own purdy SS lines with aeroquip stuff from summit. Its just AN-10 stuff. I needed 2 90*, 1 45* and one 150*, and about 3-4 ft on hose, came out cheaper than mazdatrix, not that they're stuff woulda worked for me anyway. Oh but I did buy the metric-AN adapters from them (man my butt hurts now).

good thread guys. i'm going to take mine off and see if it's feasible to get it welded.

seems like they could weld a collar around the neck to help with longer-term strength. is this a good assumption?

if it's too far gone, i suppose i'll just buy a new one.

I just saw an infomercial yesterday for some product called alumaloy. It's like solder for aluminum. It melts at 728ºF with a propane torch so it'd be ok on an oil cooler which only ever gets up to less than about 250ºF.
