Leak in front pinion oil seal

Hi,

I think I have done more damage than I wanted to!

I started to hear thump noises from under the car and it seems that I have a bad universal joint in my driveshaft where it connects to the transmission.

I took the driveshaft out and sure enough the fron joint is bad. I plan to buy a aftermarket driveshaft to replace this one since the local shop wants $250 to replace and re-balance the shaft.

Now here is my problem. I noticed a leak on the front seal of my differential where it connect to the driveshaft. The leak comes from the pinion oil seal. My mistake was to remove the pinion nut. I didn't know that the nut hold the pinion with special adjustment.

Question: Have I shot myself in the foot or is there a semi easy way to replace the seal and torque the nut back on without messing up the pinion adjustment?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
