Just an Idea

I was thinking the other day, on my 6 hour trip back from hunting camp in the U. P. about an idea for my car. Im going to be sanding her down and fixing all teh dents and watnot and i was thinking about doing wat is called "shaved" to different parts of my car. I was thinking about using bondo and making it so u cant see where my headlights or gastank lid is until they are opened. Anyone know how hard it would be to do?

i think when you shave something...IT AINT THERE ANYMORE. lol. if you shave your gas tank lid..it's just going to be a smooth part of the body that doesn't open anymore.(same for the headlights)

Well generally yea, but wat i was thinking is keeping it where it could open. Lay down some masking tape throw on the bondo and sand it down. Then take the sand paper off and then it would still open, but it would appear that it is not there

And anyway - (My two cents worth only) I HATE that shaved look. . . imagine how bad it would look ? The lights down lines - look great. . .

edit - I just used Paint Shop Pro - and "shaved" my headlights from an image. . .try it - see the result, my god, it was awful.

Make sure you post pics if you do it!!!

I think it would look good because it would continue the flow of the body, but i would have to see it to be able to tell. I might do it, if i dont like it ill break off the bondo before i paint it. I think a perfeclty smooth 7 would look awesome. Do the Lights, the hood, gas cover, sun roof(solid one not moonroof, and take off the black. But i dont know it was just an idea ill see how the gas cover and lights look if i figure out how to do it.

i would think that after time pieces of bondo and paint would chip off since its gotta be a thin layer on the edges...

no he cant, but you guys have both have hands on the torch right now. Your going to have some problems with your bondo idea. 1st is bondo is not strong. If you run the tape and bondo over the overlap will be very weak. I mean you cant touch it with out damaging it weak. If the gas door pops open, lights jump up game over/start over. Now, make it thick enough to be strong=ugly, might as well weld a bigger piece of steel on your gas door.

People have relocated items like this. Say shave your gas door. Which means take the gas door off. make a metal replacement that fits the hole perfectly and weld it in then bondo and paint. Now thats done. reroute the filler neck to say behind the tail light. Put the tail light on a hinge and lock.

Your head lights good luck.
