just got back from the track

i had no intention of running tonight (seeing how ive never run before) but when we got there, my friends wanted to see what my car could do in the 1/4. plus ive been wanting to run it before i start doing exhaust and so on. well.....

first run.. waited about 20-30 mins in the stage lane.. went.. missed third.. with a 1.23 reaction time (rememer, virgin to drag racing) turned over a 18.6

second run.. took about 10-15 mins in the stage lane..
missed third again 1.3 reaction time, 18.5

third run.. 30-40 mins in the stage lane. .985 reaction time. 18.1

kinda dissappointed, i dont think im too bad of a driver, my friends got tired of me waiting in the stage lane, and watching the same cars go through... so i didnt get anymore runs in. i think with a couple more tries, i could of gotten it to mid 17's hopefully or lower.

im hopping i just have a clogged cat and will get freed up a whole lot after my exhaust...

thought i would share..

also, i weighed my car in, 2500 and osme change with me in it. i weight 135. i didnt take anything out seeing how it was a last minute thing

edit: if you are interested, i will post the 1/8 miles times, 1000ft, ect of my runs.. im saving the slips

Sorry to hear you had to wait so long in the staging lanes; in my local slalom club waits are seldome less than 5 mins, but that's autocross, not drag.

Still, was it a fun 18 seconds? If so then it was all worth while

yea... it was a rush the first time because its a new thing. but i feel bad because the ricers are quicker now need exhaust soo so bad.

i called racing beat day before yesterday and they said they havent shipped it out yet, either today or monday.. hopefully soon...

when i missed my gear on the second run, i slammed the gas at the same time and think i redlined.. (was watching the track) and heard a buzzer, i thought for some odd reason there was someone behind me that hit a horn.. is that a bad buzzer? it kinda worried me.

any stock 1/4 times someone else has done?

you'l looooooove that exhaust package. Best bolt-on instant power mod for the 1st gen, IMHO.

no, the buzzer is normal, just an annoyance sometimes, that's all.

chin up, man. i think you did good for a virgin
think of it this way, you're a seasoned veteran compared to the likes of me. never ran at a track before, but i wouldn't mind it just for the experience. and like manntis said, long as you had fun ... that's what really matters.

you also have baseline figures to chart the progress of your car (and driving) when you get the exhaust and whatever other parts you plan to get.

thats mainly why i raced, it was $6 more to race than it was to spectate, so i raced, and i wanted to see time differences with various mods

When riding shotgun with my buddies during funruns I hear the overrev buzzer all the time. It's just to warn you you're getting near redline, not that you're actually hurting your baby

That's cool that you have a nice baseline, you can chart both car progress and your own. Hope it was worth while.

IMO, that buzzer is great for the first few months you have the car. You can shift when you hear it and that way figure out where to shift based on the feel subconsciously. At least that's how it was with the second gen.

the way my dad has tought me about rotaries, is not to over rev them because of apex seals, so i almost **** my pants when i heard that buzzer, i pretty much stopped gunning it and just went softer through the gears after that. i really dotn want to throw an apex seal. the engine has 136000 miles on it. im looking for another 12a to rebuild and port, but thats going to be a long time down the road before it actually goes into the car.. so this engine needs to last me

your dad is right, but generally speaking, you're probably not going to toss a seal until 8500 RPM (that's the accepted standard) - so that's where you'd be over-revving. the buzzer comes on at like 6900 or 7000 RPM ... it's just a guide.
obviously you can toss a seal at any RPM if it's just it's time however, you probably shouldn't be shifting at more than 7000 RPM anyway, and that RPM should be more like, 6400-6600 RPM in 3rd or higher. it's pretty pointless to shift higher because the engine's power has started it's downward curve.
obviously it's better to tread on the side of caution, so i can't blame you there, but if you change your oil before and after a track sesssion, run some premix (with your functioning OMP), that should be a little more pre-emptive TLC for your baby ...
