JDM 12a Turbo

I was hangin out with a friend talkin shop and we were talkin about turbo engines, i mentioned the 12a turbo in the first gen savannas and then i started thinking about swapping it into my 85 gsl-se. Would this be a good idea, or should i try putting a tII turbo and manifold on my stock 6-port. If someone could tell me where i can get one that would be great.

Dont waste your time with a JDM 12A Turbo. They are old, have small ports, and didn't make any power.

If you insist on Turbocharging, either turbocharge your current 12A engine, or Swap in a Turbo 13B.

I would agree with direct freak. I do think the idea of having a jdm 12aT thats efi and has six port induction would be cool but its really not worth all the money and hassle when you can turbo the 13b in your Se or tII swap and make more power for less money and less work beacuse it is relatively hard to source a jdm 12at let alone one in good condition. They do pop up on ebay evry now and then but i wouldnt buy one and expect it to be in good condition theyre most likely blown or beat to hell.

dont do it, either boost your 12a or swap for a tII like direct freak said, not worth it

Yes you can use an s4/s5 exhaust mann and turbo to boost your 13b (DF/kutu he doesnt have a 12a) . And im positive you should be able to reach 200 hp n/a! Go carb or Itb, msd ign, Do some porting, and get a good exhaust setup and you should be able to reach your goal no problem.

FFS,, even in australia ( where we didnt get them ) we know that an 84/85 GSL-SE is a 13b 6 port

THERE IS NO 12A TO ADD A TURBO TO

for the OP, i turbo 6 port engines regularly,,, ive lost count litterally how many i have done
-- usually i do the FC version and hybrid it with turbo FC parts,, but i have also done the GSL-SE version

usually i will mod the FC turbo lower inlet manifold to suit the 13b 6p block,, and use the exhaust manifold that the car demands
( ie,,in rx2 and the like,, a custom manifold will always be required )

in your situ,, i would look for a s5 turbo and manifold,, cause if it clashes in your bay
it can always be flipped over,, added with spacer, and presto, the turbo moves forwards to adjacent the front rotor
( this is an aussie trick,, as we have the steering box to deal with on the turbo side )

turbo 6 p 13b's rock
they just need a few tricks on the TB to restore the bottom end before the turbo kicks in when using turbo inlet manifolds

they will provide a top end tug well beyond where the 12at has run flat at 6500 rpm

in fact,, i have one ,, just here
GSL-SE engine with rx4 housings, 12a tall port primary, mild ported, D ported exhaust, custom modded FC LIM ( for LPG mixer )

The JDM 12AT is super rare and expensive, your better off doing a TII swap, or do a carb turbo on your 13B. I know rotary shack has a lot of parts to turbo a 12A, not sure about 13B.

Chino84gsl where can i get ITBs? do i have to make them? i love the look of itbs and would love them on my car. i really just wanna keep it NA but i love the idea of a turbo spooling under the hood, guess i don't know what i really want yet just lookin at something that will give me the best power for cheap. And Bumpstart i love what you guys down under do with rotaries some of those cars are nuts i don't see many other rotaries around my area (Buffalo,New York) let alone any seriously tuned ones. anyway my question to you was what kind of tricks have to be done to the TB? Thanks everyone for the support, just lookin for a good place to dump money.

Lol no you dnt have to make Itbs but it's a bit more expensive than going carb.
As stated above a carb setup would probly be your best bet and the cheaper option if you wanted boost. If you wanted to stay N/a i would go itb and port your 13b since you wouldnt be spending the money on a turbo setup. Either route you choose i feel you should be able to reach your 200hp goal.

How to reach Rob 1(818) 693-1031, He's a great guy and has good parts for decent prices he helpd me alot with my 12at project... Im sure he can help lead you in the right direction or atleast better than i can.

I was unaware of that. I did refer him to do buisness with Rob But nottice i gave him his # and a link to his website how would that be them doing buisness on the forum? I have done plenty of buissnes with Rob and have sent him plenty of money and have never once had problems he has always been a great help to me and delivers quality products so i will continue to work with him and refer others to do the same. If I am violating any forum rules by doing so then i would aprieciate if a Mod informed me of it!

For anyone who was not already aware....

Rotary Shack has been permanently banned from doing any business on this forum. I dont have enough room in this one post to list out every name from every forum that I have spoken with personally, that has lost money, parts, or both due to dealing with Rotary Shack. He has been banned for months now, and I still get a PM from someone new at least once a month explaining what they paid Rob and what they are still waiting to receive.

For anyone who has done business with Rob, this is not a debate. I have personally spoken to Rob and personally caught him in a lot of lies surrounding one of our members here and a transaction that lasted several YEARS and was still never completed. Not too long back, someone PM'ed me asking for help--the person brought his RX7, a bunch of new parts, and several thousand dollars to Rob OVER FOUR YEARS AGO. To this day, the guy hasnt even see his car, let alone get anything that he paid for. The car is still at Rob's shop.....and last I heard, next to nothing has been done to it.

If you choose to do business with Rotary Shack, you do so at your own risk. Just know this--

1--he is banned from this forum for refusing to address MANY customer complaints, that are still unresolved.
2--he runs an unlicensed shop, against the law in CA.
3--Last I knew, he was under investigation by authorities for fraud complaints.

If you read this post and then still want to send him money, then I dont know what to tell you.

Some of Rob's friends had to be repeatedly told to stop trying to sell parts in here for RS....one of them actually had to be banned because he couldnt follow the simple terms of service on this forum. Ask yourselves, is this REALLY someone that you should be sending hundreds or thousands of dollars to? But hey, dont take my word for it....go look on the RX8 club.....nopistons....ohio rotary.....go ask long-time people in the rotary communities, like Kevin Landers. I recently saw a post on a different forum where Kevin talks about how he used to be an admin on the place....and how they had to ban Rotary Shack over there due to the high number of unresolved complaints and customers that got the shaft.

Sorry for thread jacking but Wow even after reading those threads and posts about what rob did it seems hard to beilive your talking about the same person who helped me with my seven! He sat on the phone an explaind to me step by step how to boost prep my carb...He helped answer every question I had even helped me figure out how to make my own carb hat for zext to nothing using my K&N intake. I cnt beilive he would do that the only downside I ever had working with rob is he was usualy always buisy so it took awhile to recieve my parts but i was always given tracking # and notified when things were on theyre way. Im sorry to hear about what to hapend to you and all the others.
