douple post, and I think it may be a repost. I agree though for that price could make my 12a into a boosting monster, but I guess theres a large market for the right hand drive japanese car in the states..

there is no market for right hand drive cars in the states, only a few select cars are able to be registered in the US, any FB, FC or FD is exempt and cannot be registered legally here. only option would be to obtain a special build permit and rebuild the car completely and register it as a special built vehicle.

believe me i would love to own one but you don't see a plate on that car for a reason.

So original mini's are special built vehicles, huh?

Explains why a buddy of mine imported 3 of them from Australia and didn't have to do jack crap to register them here....

"only a few select cars are able to be registered in the US"

i know of a mini RHD also nearby that is registered legally, it is considered a classic or some other special vehicle stamp to be allowed.

as i said, it is possible but not legal. just because your jurisdiction allowed a FB RHD to be registered does not make it legal. counties in california grow and sell medicinal marijuana but federally it is a controlled substance and is illegal to sell anywhere in the US and is punishable under federal law, this is a similar case.

Just wondering, how much do you guys have to pay to get a car imported? Im not thinking about freight, but tax, dues etc.

Interesting. If that's a genuine 12a turbo model (and about the only way to tell would be to see if it's got the factory boost gauge in place of the voltmeter) then it's probably worth that and more. You guys seem to have the same level of trouble importing RHD as we do with LHD, not to mention drive-thru takeaways and overtaking on the open road

In NZ, it's about US$1500 for a half-container from Japan, plus import tax of 12.5%. We don't have any local car industry to protect, so cars here are rediculously cheap. About 90% of the cars on the road are Japanese, and less than ten years old.
