I know this isn't a first gen section article but no one really goes to the other rotary section anyways.

Old [Sch|F]ool
And nobody in the 1st-gen section really gives a crap about crappy new cars.
Off to the Lounge, or Other Rotary, or Kills or something...
edit: Good God I clicked the thing. That rendering is the definition of UGLY! It looks like a cross between two of the ugliest cars on the road, a new Cadillac and a Lexus SC430 - you know, the thing that looks like an Audi TT except the proportions are all off and the body is waaay tooooo huuuuge for the greenhouse kind of stuck on the top as an afterthought.
UUUUU-GLY!!!!
And I bet it won't be "lightweight" anymore. Hell even new Miatas aren't lightweight anymore.

Oh for petes sake!
That's the same freaking article that someone digs up every couple months or so and passes off as new information.
Read my lips:
THERE IS NO NEW RX-7. MAZDA CANNOT KEEP UP WITH ROTARY PRODUCTION AS IT IS RIGHT NOW WITH THE RX-8! NO SHOW CAR HAS BEEN REVEALED! A RX-7 IS NOT IN THE WORKS AT MAZDA AT ALL!
Jesus. We should have a ******* sticky at the top of every forum.

Heck, I sometimes misspull it myself, but then again, I can even misspull my own name..........
As for the new 7, I'll believe it when I see it on the dealers lot, until then, it's just speculation and rumor.
I would love to see another Rotary powered car offered, and high production numbers. This would help to eliminate the false rumors about the unreliability of Rotary powered cars that many pistonheads spread.

Notice the article said "RX7 REPLACEMENT. This means that if Mazda ever does produce another rotary-powered 2-seat sports car it will likely be called something else, like RX9 for example. They NEVER re-use RX number sequences after having discontinued one of those numbers. (However, they've called three completely different rotary cars "Cosmos": the '67 to '69 110S Cosmo sports car, the "76 to '79 RX5 Cosmo coupe and the 20B-powered Eunos Cosmo luxury coupe).
And yes, the above article is old enough to vote. Yet people still keep dredging it up.

Sure we'd still have a bit of a niche market, like VW, Porsche, and Subaru with thier opposed cylinder engines, but there would be some new blood. Hopefully with Mazda being involved with ALMS next year we'll see some boingers start losing and having to convert to keep up.

If there ever is a true rotary sports coupe produced again, I hope they do revert to using RX-7. 7 is so much cooler than 9.
It wouldn't make sense for Mazda to produce a true rotary sports coupe, when they already have a blase rotary for the mid-life crisis set. In my opinion, the RX-8's ho-hum sales will eventually kill off Mazda's interest in the rotary niche market completely.

I've seen that picture of the "new" Mazda RX-7 in magazines or online to many times to count now.

Hell, even all the pickups are starting to come standard with bigger and bigger turbos.

I have seen more Mustang GT's in the past month than I have seen RX-8's in the past year. Though a better comparison is the 350Z and G35 coupes which sell like hotcakes compared to the RX-8. That has to be a huge thorn in the side of Mazda. That's all the MORE reason for them to come out with a new rotary sports car.

Contrast that with the 12 or 13 Mustang's on Ford dealer lots last year, when Ford was selling them at rock-bottom prices to make room for the 2005 models. Nobody was biting because everyone was waiting for the 2005 models to arrive.
The new Mustangs will sell very fast though, especially with a base price (in Canada) of only 25K for the V6 base model. 36K for a GT is in the same price range as the RX8 and Alberta has lots of rednecks, so look for Mustangs to outsell any of the Japanese or European sports cars, including the RX8.
The RX8s are typically bought by engineering types and rotary enthusiasts, a demographic of fewer numbers and with a somewhat higher over all mechanical IQ than that of the typical Mustang buyer.

Somebody noticed something I posted! And here I was beginning to think that my posts were invisible to everyone but me
But yeah, I definitely can't say much for the general IQ of the people in my area. At least the kids anyway. There is one RX-8 owned by a teacher at my school, but there are several new GT's in the student parking lot. All driven by teenage girls with rich parents of course

Dealerships in my area still have original 04 8z on the lots from when they first came out and they do not have any 05's yet. Sales are not good in my area and I see very very few on the road. Let me ask. Has any of you driven a RX-8?

On the topic of how rotary sales have been going, i think that we should maybe play a role in mazda's line of production. I think that we should all work togethere on making a car and telling them to build that. I can see the headlines already, "A car made by the people made for the peopl" lol. I think that would be a pretty wicked idea. We might not know everything there is about car specs and so on ... but i'm pretty sure we could work things out between us and their engineers. Well thats my thought ... and ya that new was old news about new rx coming down is old fake news.

I look at new car prices even for a $8500 Kia and think "gee I can get a tweaked out GSL for half that and have enough left over to get an SA shell and a 12a rebuild candidate OR OH OH I could probably get a REPU for that if I could find one". The factory supports the clubs and the aftermarket as a PR campaign, thier hope is that we rant and rave about Mazda and convince someone to buy one or we break stuff and come to thier parts counter and mechanics to fix it.
