interior metal :done:

so after helping my buddy teamzzyzx redo his interior https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=teamzzyzx i decided i should do the same to my car, while it is not running. i started this project about a month ago, and i just finished it lastnight. i could have done it on a weekend but i lagged on it, and i didn't really have the extra hands to help me. just like teamzzyzx i pulled out all the interior, dash and all. moved aside all the wiring and started grinding. i got most of the sounddeading out by using dry ice on all the level surfaces. i found some spots of surface rust, that was easily grinded away. after i got all the tar/sounddeading off i started with the preping. vaccumed about 5times and i hit the metal with the aceton twice. i use a self ecthing primer on the bare metal. the ecthin primer actully sticks better than plain primer. after a good coat of the ecthing primer i went over it with a sandable primer. i went with the sandable primer because i plan on painting the inside with an undercoat later on. i was gonna lay down a coat of primer sealer, but i decided not too. i'll post some pics abit later tonight, let know what you guys think..

AHHH fucken mole!!!

this is just a thought, but why don't you just just mock up like a wooden rectangular 4 sided box so that you could just place it on the incline part of the rear hatch and hten full it up with dry ice to get that part off? Also I have another concern with the dry ice, what does it do to the other side of the car? Wouldn/the tar/paint on the other side chip off too? its only sheet metal inbetween the 2

The undercoating is a different bitumen based product, not as thick and brittle as the inside sound deadening material. But you do bring up a good point, there may be some delamination of the underside that may not be readily apparent. The undercoating can be removed by soaking it with mineral spirits/paint thinner. Dowel pins leaks, when left long enough, will coat the entire underside on the driver;s side and soften the undercoating to the point that it easily scrapes off with a putty knife. A scotch pad with mineral spirits will clean the rest of it.

Looks good then ... planning on painting it too? I think i'll be doing the same to my new shell too. Looks so much cleaner with the primer on. I'll probably shoot it flat black ... probably just rattle canned.

Dude, I was going to go help you out Sunday, with the paint, then crazy Peruvian told me we were going to Long Beach for her B-Day with her fam.

DYNOMAT it now bitch

Oh, I'm going to try and cut up the GSL-SE this weekend, and rob all the nuts and bolts, so if you need any, let me know. (I know you probably need the other ones to hold your dash on since that fantastic guy you bought it from only had 2 on it, )

i do plan on painting it a semi gloss black, in my opinion flat black can start looking dusty... but i'm going to wait until i get the car in bodyshop i work at.. plus im not completely done with the interior, i still need to change the dash harness. the P.O. before me had a 4gage stereo wire powering my fuel pump, so i need to fix that.
