Interesting 79-No connection

Ran across this 79 on FleeBay. Very low miler-25K with original paperwork. Janurary 79 build date, Red Plaid interior with very little fadeing (rare). Looks immaculate and very original. The trim and mirrors (both sides) look the correct shade of 79 metallic grey (take note you detail freaks) Dash speaker car w/early always-on fan A/C **** and a left side hood prop. It also has the later style door panels & chrome trim which seems rare (different) when combined with the plaid cloth and dash speaker.

Another odd thing is that this looks like it has the Calif emmisions under the hood but the sticker says it was sold in NY? All for a BIN price of $9,800. I like to see that kind of money but it doubt it will sell for anything close. Still, nice to see these are still out there to be found. This was the absolute top of the line most expensive model Rx-7 that could be bought. A GS with alloys, air, sunroof and an auto. The base price of $9,655 was way above the new MSRP of the day. A testiment to just how popular these were back in the summer of 79.

Marvelous find. Underhood looks 100% original to a cursory glance with exception of the battery and possibly the negative battery cable clamp (looks like a clamp-on replacement) & the plug wires (no blue boots on the trailing wires - not sure when that started/stopped in production).

It's not a Cali-spec car, because it has the cold-start assist - - they weren't used here.

Looking at the pix on the sale page, I don't see an EGR valve, either, & the rats nest has only two solenoids.

The in-hood sticker gives you the definitive scoop even though they did not show the vac routing sticker: 8871 series, "A.I & T.R." means Air Injection and Thermal Reactor but no EGR. It's a fed-spec car.

Pity it's an auto-trans.

Original key.

Guess I have a lot to learn yet about california emmission equiped cars....Although cool to look at, I'd be afraid that sit in the seats for fear of ripping that old unobtainium material. You can still buy the original key blanks. I got a couple from an Australian rotary parts place.

Guess I would be wondering just how _long_ the old Queen has sat between drives? 25K mi means a LOT of time just... parked there. and...what? drying out? Lubes turning to sludge? What havoc has ancient coolant unleashed on its ally-innards? Wonder what surprises it will bless the New Owner with if he decides to actually do more than look at her? Still, wonderful to see. Thx Banzai.

aaaaaand ANOTHER to add to the mix:
Spring is here! (well, "there" - not "here" in Alaska. yet.) The Sports Cars are budding!

Now THIS one's "low mileage" is 85K. But looks to have been LOVED and USED. Original window sticker is a good sign of a pampered life. Not wild about the seat redo but looks quality. Impressively unmolested. Will be curious to see where the $meter runs on this one.

Agreed on all accounts. The saved documtation and clean as a whistle appearance deserve major cudos. Redoing the seats (red vinyl not my first choice either) shows that things were given attention. I'd guess its been re painted too but basically unmolested. With 85K on the clock, this would be a great cruiser/driver that shouldn't be over the top expensive. August of 78 build, with the early door panels, dash trim, always on A/C and right side hood prop that stores in the bonnet. I like it!

Wow, that hammer price on the Red 79 was 6K! More than I expected. It will be interesting to see if the money actually changes hands or if the car comes back for sale. Meanwhile, the more rare sonic bronze plaid interior 25K mile car is stalled at $3K. Mostly due to the $9K asking. I'm sure.

I got an almost immaculate 83 GSL with 44k miles on it. It's got a set of original style 'dealer' replaced tires on it. Sitting has its bad points. The tires replaced in 1989 are damn near new looking except they have a little dry rot and the interior also suffers the drying out thing as well especially the rear carpet. Front wheel bearings are kinda noisy. It's a nasty slow slug automatic. Accelerator pump is bad and stumbles on off idle take offs. if it sits a month or so without being started smokes a bit and smells of gas pretty bad. Car needs to be driven HARD a few times but the automatic is so slow. But it's original with the sticker and it has never seen rain or snow. Nice to see an underside completely black and NO rust anywhere! They are still around I found this one pretty local. I paid $3400

So the Brown SA topped out at $5100 - NOT meeting the reserve. Which was...??
In spite its prime condition it looks like the Market Has Spoken on minty automatics.

Looks like the 25K mile, early Bronze car is back. And at a more reasonable $6,950 BIN price.
