I have been trying to find the intake spacer to put the S4 intake on and S3 engine. I have a 85 GSL-SE and broke my lowwer intake manifold. so i just wnt ahead and got the S4 intake. i know i need a spacer to put in on but i can't seem to find it anywhere. I did find it when i first thought of doing this. but i didn't order it then and now i cant seem to find it anywhere yeah i know kinda stupid lol

Are you trying to use the entire top end from the S4 engine or just the lower intake manifold?

I thought the lower manifold is realtively the same. You can't use the 4 injector setup from a S4 on a SE....

i was going to use the whole thing. but can't like you said. to bypass the secondary injector issue im going to use the mid section from my intake. i haven't got it together yet. i looked at putting on the whole thing but it wouldn't fit my injector rail stands to high. since im using my mid intake part will that fix the clearance issue?

you can use the lower manifold but everything above that has to be GSL-SE i don't think the S4 dynamic chamber will fit under the hood either

wooooowww ok here is whats up man (and im going through the same build atm also)
The s3 Lower intake manifold and s4 are almost the same BUTTT....

-S3 has a sideways port below the two primaries in the middle of the manifold but the s4 doesnt have this hole and you have to make a block off plate for it
(which is as easy as buying a piece of angle aluminum and attaching it to the LIM)

As for the s4 lower with a GSL-SE upper (or middle part you described it as) that will not work because the holes are different

You CAN use the complete s4 intake consisting of LIM,UIM,Plenum+(big box with the writing on it) and TB with the air tube and have it fit under the bonnet

I do not know what spacer you are referring to though.

The solution i would go with is
-JB welding the secondary injector ports closed and other vacuum links on the UIM (i stuck duct tape on the inside of the port to keep the goo in place)
-fix the LIM as stated above
-put it together.

For some more info and pictures just search in the 1st gen archive and if you have any other questions just shoot me a pm

the S5 lower actually has the ports in the right place, so its smog compatible if needed

But the s5 has VDI so you lose power if you use it.
S4 didn't come with VDI

there are 2 long and 2 short oil injectors. the long ones go in the intake and the short ones go in the motor.

it looks like you have 4 long ones (thats what she said?)

lol. ok i'll have to check that out. i was pretty sure i put the correct ones bad on the engine and i just used the ones that came with the intake. there is no telling if i put the wrong ones on the engine as i didn't think there was a need to label them. thank you for your help. i'll post if it fixes it or not.

ok well i checked it out. I had them all in the right place. as soon as i pulled them off i see what you ment by 2 long and 2 short. but that is only on thread length. I'm just going to jb weld that one oil injector hole and run a very low pre mix ratio. 300:1 or something around there. i think i'll be ok with that. im have sunk a ton of money into the bould so far and it's my only car so i really need it up soon. thanks fro the help tho

yeah im not sure man... but i decided not to put jb weld in the hole and just put a nut for now. im going to keep looking into the problem. i might just get all the oil injector from the S4. the 2 on my engine are stock. and if you look at the pic you can see that the part where the vacum hose connects the piece is just a tad longer than the injector from the S4.

Why would there be a loss of power if he uses the VDI? My works perfect and it was definitely a power increase when the VDI opens up.
